    My journey with AB

Good on you Juja. Its exactly how it effects me. Its like you don't have to wrestle with your brain DO I drink or DON"T I? The decision is made for you as you just CAN'T drink end of story. Plenty of booze around me right NOW,but I have just said no. Good Luck,so glad you feel that relief!! Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.

      My journey with AB

      Thanks, hadit.

Looked and looked on the meds thread for this one.:H As a last resort came here. Whew.
Not much on meds thread about AB anyway. Seems most are into Baclofen.

Really groggy this morning after 125 mg AB and 1/2 mg of Klonipin. I know there's a warning about tranqs and AB, and I think it may be that AB intensifies them. Do you or nursie have any thoughts?

Would love to hear from other AB folks.

Seeing doc tomorrow. Crossing fingers that it's okay for me to take this.

        Hey Juja

I don't think there is a contraindication with ab and benzos. I will say though that I am off benzos finally.

I have to admit guys-I see no downside to ab. I really don't.

        Have a great Sunday

          My journey with AB

Hi, Just joined today. I know I have a problem but I just can't bring myself to go to AA. I have given up many times (giving up is easy, I like to say that) with the intention of going back to drinking in moderation but it never happens that way. SO I am interested in this AB product. My question, does one require a perscription for this drug? Also, is the idea that you take it forever? How long before we are 'safe'? I gave up smoking 13 years ago and feel I am totally free of it now. But is booze different? Thanks!

            Welcome, bombadier!

Antabuse is a prescription drug in the U.S., but some folks circumvent going to a doctor, for various reasons, and order it from an online pharmacy. River Pharmacy is mentioned most. I believe it's in Canada.

Since I'm new at this, I'll let the more informed tell you what you need to know.

Stick around. My best to you.

              My journey with AB

Juja, I haven't had any side effects to AB. Feel a little tired after work but thats fairly normal anyway. It might just take a little time for you body to get used to it. Just keep with it and i am sure everything will be fine. I have just got home from working and have been feeling strong cravings. Lots of stressful issues to deal with TODAY. But, I just tell myself you CAN'T drink with AB and somehow I get through it! Really, there is no other choice, even IF I decided to drink again, I would have to wait a week or two for the drug to get out of my system,so why bother? Keep posting and let us no how you are doing?

                My journey with AB

Bomba, Some people take AB for many years. It is an individual thing between you and your Doctor to work out. Its a crutch for me, a very powerful tool and I don't think I will be in any rush to cease taking it until I KNOW I have definately beaten my addicition to AL. My Doctor has advised me that for most people there are no side effects. You have to get the drug on Prescription here in Aus. Good Luck. Please keep posting and let us no ow you are doing. I am with ANNA; I don't see a down side to AB.

                  My journey with AB

The mistake I made last attempt with AB in Mar 2012 is one that THIS time I will try to be very aware of. I just couln't get my mind around never drinking whilst on holidays and as a holiday was approaching,I thought, OK, I will moderate. WHO me!!! Moderate. I am an alcoholic.Thats just not an option!! Even today the Mind games began. We have hols coming up and there will be booze everywhere. Its a holiday on a cruise boat.I somehow have to be able to get my mind around not drinking!!!! Any thoughts guys would be sooo much appreciated.:thanks::thanks:

                    Hi Hadit,
Can you postpone your holiday until you get more al free days under your belt.
I was doing so well until my mate convinced us to go with them on an all inclusive holiday and well disaster. There was plenty of people not drinking al and having al free cocktails but too much of a temptation. :upset:
It's not what you drink, it's how much!

Thanks Lash for your concern. Unfortunatley it has been paid for. I guess holidays are just another excuse to drink and has to be dealt with as such. Australians will drink at the drop of a hat. Any excuse will do, thats why we have such a massive problem with al. The Govt is very concerned at the binge drinking that takes place. Anyhow how is your journey going?

                        Hi Hadit,
I'm at the stage of saying enough is enough, I've reduced to 3 drinks a day and ready for al free days, just building up the courage.

I've visited Wertern Australia for 2 months Jan/Feb 1992 and loved it, great place. I didn't notice too much of an al problem but I was probably blind at the time.

                          My journey with AB

Ha Ha ! Lash WA is HUGE and many miles in between towns. Travelled around it last year 12,000kms. I think most of the problems are in the cities.I am near Melbourne and every weekend there is alcohol fueled violence. We probably arn't any better or worse than other cities around the world. Have you considered medication? For me, AB is a great crutch as you just can't drink when taking it. If you do, the consequences are very serious.I did once and was sooooooo sick!!! AB takes the mind games out of the equation ie should I drink OR should I not. You just CAN't. That being the case it kind of helps a bit with the cravings. There seems lots of people in MWO that take AB. There are other drugs available though;have a look at the Meds thread. Good Luck with it all! Keep in touch and let us no how it all goes.

                              My journey with AB

Saw my dr yesterday for AB. He wouldn't prescribed it for me until he did some research on AB and hypothyroidism, which I have.

I've been taking it (via a kind stranger) since Saturday, and the drowsiness and fogginess are almost too much. I also take a tranquilizer, and that combo may be the problem. I feel like a zombie, and I don't like it. But, at least I'm not drinking.

Going to take AB 3 times a week, instead of daily, and slowly reduce the klonipin.

Juja, Can you find another Dr easily in your country? I am now on Day 7. The cravings do seem to be getting easier. I am trying to get my head around the free time I now have. Spending lots of time on MWO has been a good thing. Sounds like you are doing well.
