    Hey Nesters....

MS. I just posted on you other thread. I know how you feel, as do many others here. It sucks! Hang in there....you are doing the right thing by posting about it. Don't stop posting

Another hangover free morning for me. I fought through some cravings last night....not too bad. I'm looking forward to the weekend

    Happy Friday!

Hi MS, we are both on Day 1 on July 19th -- we are now quit buddies. I don't think I'll be able to post much over the next two week holiday but you will be in my thoughts, especially since I will be in Europe. At 6pm, your witching hour, I'll send thoughts of strength your way. We are in this together, now girl.

Free, thank you so much. It definitely helps to be here. I don't feel so alone right now. I look forward to hearing from you after your holiday.

MS, just wanted to send you a hug - :l We all understand and are here for support. Let us know how it's going. Read and post!!! Also, you might want to try L Glutamine for cravings?? A lot of people here have had good result with it. I think it comes in both pill and chewable form. Also, lemon with water?? I eat healthy candy - I know we're supposed to stay away from sugar, but food helps me a lot. I eat super healthy aside from the treats.

            xx,

Thank you UN. I ate horribly today but did not drink AL. Thank you for the hug.

Thank you all for the support today. It was an emotional day and I was weak, but I did not give in. This is all thanks to the wonderful community. I want to write more but I'm winding down for the night and going to put down my iPad for now.

Much love and strength to you all.

MS I ate my way through the first month LOL I kept posting about my sugar cravings and people just kept saying eat whatever you need to. Very good advice. I ate and treated myself when I needed to. I gained a little but now I'm nearly at 7 weeks and the weight is coming off, the sugar cravings are nothing like as bad, and the AL cravings have pretty much ceased altogether. You can do it. One day at a time. Have an ice-cream, treat yourself!

I personally still need a little chocolate, especially on Friday evenings when hubby is drinking. I would rather gain a pound then lose my quit. I am guarding that like a million dollar winning lottery ticket!

Thank you all. First weekend... done. This is the beginning of day 4. I drank diet Coke like a crazy person this weekend. Not the healthiest thing to do but it helped. Luckily I was out of the house most all weekend and that helped tremendously. My husband's grandmother passed away yesterday evening and luckily I was sober and able to handle it well. I'm trying to eat well today as I believe that eating well will help me stay away from the AL (why ruin a healthy day?).

Thank you again for the love and support. Once I'm strong enough I want to help you all as much as you have helped me.

Much love and strength to you all today.

MS.....I am sorry to hear about your Husbands Grandmother. Congrats on being sober and not letting that derail your progress. I too have been drinking diet soda and eating chewy sprees like nobody's business. My husband pointed out one night when I was reading calories on the label of fruit juice that I didn't worry about the calories of wine when I was drinking a whole bottle....it made me laugh because he was right!

Miley, my husband has said the EXACT same thing to me! "Why do you worry about calories in regular Coke but you'll drink a bottle of wine and think nothing???". So true. Somehow we like to gloss over that detail but it is a lot of calories. Not to mention the other damage we do to our insides when we binge drink. A few years ago I stopped drinking AL for one month as a "health break" (this was when I was not an out of control binge drinker) and I lot more weight than I expected. Not that weight loss should be the goal of going AF, but it is another positive side effect of giving up the booze.

Thank you for the condolences. My husband's poor grandmother fell a few months ago and ended up braking both of her legs. The doctors told her she would never walk again and I think this was the last straw for her. She was a fiercely independent woman so not being able to walk or do anything on her own anymore was too much for her. She was 87 and her husband has passed years ago, so she was ready. Very sad for us but I am happy that she is not suffering anymore.

My "witching hour" is here (6pm) so I'm here with you all. I'm trying to beat the cravings with popcorn and Diet Coke. Not exactly what I envisioned eating today but I'm OK with that. It's not AL and I know I won't feel sick tomorrow morning from eating popcorn. So grateful I've been able to stay away so far today. Reading up on the Newbie's Nest is definitely helping!

MS my condolences to you and your husband, and my congratulations on handling it all AF. Diet coke and popcorn are as good a substitute as any. I have been experimenting with summer drinks. In the old days if it wasn't AL I wasn't interested. My new fave is rosehip hibiscus tea (I get it at the bulk shop) cooled down and I add a little POM (pomegranate juice) and fizzy water and ice. It's sugar free and really refreshing.
