downunder,
Welcome and good job on 3 days. Sounds like you have a good steady plan. After day four the mental fog, and tiredness begin to lift, or it did for me. Be sure to stay hydrated, eat well and rest when needed. Our body repairs itself more rapidly when we are at rest.
Stay close here read, and post.
This goal we are pressing towards is worth the price we pay to get to it. Our lives are so much better, we feel, think, and deal with situations better sober.
You have found a great place, be sure to check out the newbies nest, and keep us posted on your progress.
Look forward to getting to know you better.

Day 6. Not even sure what to do with myself now. Feeling better but having no structure in my day is not helping me. And how on earth do people get to sleep at night??? I am trying not to take the sleeping pills that I have but I just lie awake for hours. I hope this is a phase that passes....

Downunder, I had seven months of sobriety and then chose to drink. I'm back with renewed commitment and am determined to do it this go-round.
I just wanted to congratulate you on taking this step toward having a better life and to tell you that your sleep will straighten itself out. It took us a long time to get to this point, so we have to be patient and give our bodies time to heal. I sleep SO MUCH BETTER without alcohol in my system. Give it time - it will get better.
WAY TO GO - YOU'VE GOT SIX DAYS AND THAT'S A STRONG START!!
Sending you peace and strength,
UN:l
p.s. Read here voraciously to fill your time. TONS of stuff to read. I also read a lot of books on addiction which helps me. Have you visited the Toolbox under Monthly Abstinence? It's great. There's also another thread titled something like "You know you're an alcoholic when"......can't remember exactly but it will make you laugh and cry simultaneously. You'll see yourself there and know you're among people who understand!!

Downunder
it does get better. Keep busy with something. Read Allen Carr's Easyway to Control Alcohol. I read it on my smartphone with the kindle ap. Extremely helpfu to me. Keep close here and
you can succeed.
Day 26 for me.No matter how far you go or how fast you run, you can't get away from yourself. ....said at an AA meeting. It stuck with me.

Downunder, I had problems with sleeping until about the 5th or 6 th day and then came good. I now sleep better than ever and don't wake with the dreaded hangover. Good Luck just try to be patient! I am sure it will get better.

i think that thread is definitely more sad than funny- so much to relate to! I've just done day 8 and sleeping is getting better, everything is getting better actually. I can not think of one good reason for having a drink and so many reasons not to. Looking forward to many more sober days now, and no more hangovers!!
