            Goodmorning!!!
When I was in college, I had pretty much just one good close friend/room mate who I shared everything with. And let me tell you, we could PARTY. Every night we went out. To be honest, it was REALLY fun for about 80% of the time. That is pretty good in my book.....

When we got out of college, we both lived in New York City - she was on the east side and I was on the west side. She had a serious live in boyfriend, I did not. So, naturally, we still spent a lot of time together, but I branched out a bit because she was living with her boyfriend. We still both partied like there was no tomorrow. I think it was then that I decided my life was going no where if I continued to live to party....the party-ing was getting kind of old. So, I put myself back in school and got a career.

Fast forward to today: I got married, had kids and have a full time career. I have a very happy home relatively speaking.....and I am an alcoholic who wants to live a sober life. My friend got married, got divorced, never had kids, moved around and never really developed a career....she still drinks like there is no tomorrow and smokes pot alcoholically as well.

Two summers ago, I vacations on Martha's Vineyard which is where she was living at the time. I invited her over. She came and plopped herself on the beach and proceeded to drink all day. I had to "host" the day so I hung out with her but we really had NOTHING to talk about. She made no attempt to get to know my kids and pretty much talked about herself the whole time. So, last summer when we went to the Vineyard again for vacation, I didn't call her. I did not want to waste my precious vacation days hosting her - especially since I was struggling not to drink.

So, she has de-friended me on facebook. Quite an immature thing to do. It bothers me to some extent, but I really don't need friends like that in my life. Her life is SO SMALL. I feel like she has never gotten past the party lifestyle and it has stunted her growth. There is so much more to life than a bottle(s) of wine. So, I feel kind of sad about it, but it is time to move on. So I am just going to let it be. I will not reach out to her or call her anymore. I can't because it would be so unhealthy for me.

I wonder how many other friends will be going by the wayside because I am sober?
            I just won't anymore

I also lost friends when I started not drinking/partying so much. I started thinking that they weren't real friends anyway. Honestly I don't miss them. I know I am doing the right thing and if they don't like it, they can go to hell. You may lose other friends as well but you will be better off.

Martha's Vineyard is such a beautiful place. As you discovered last summer, it's a lot nicer without dealing with someone else's drama.

I believe that people/friends come and go in your life for a reason. The friends that you meet while staying a/f will see the real you and know that you are a decent honest person.
After work i am going to treat myself with the money that i would of used to buy my booze. ........watch out shops here i come xxxxxxx

I agree with you about A/F friends --- I wish I could bring some of the friends I have made her into my real life. The anonymity has allowed us to open up and I like what I've seen! And I have really loved not pretending to be someone I'm not .

Keep up the good work - it is worth whatever it takes!!!
