    On becoming joyfully AF

Successfully avoided the free wine on the second flight. Turned down the complimentary bottle of wine upon check in, and turned down a second bottle that showed up half hour later. Am feeling down right virtuous. Of course, the oreos and pringles (those darn mini bars) aren't the best choices but tomorrow is another day to start on three healthy meals and exercise. Today's gratitude -- a decent internet connection!

Wow -- AL isn't only available everywhere, it is pushed on you! Sure is a good thing you don't drink .

Glad you've made it to your first destination! :h NS

Thanks, No Sugar. Maybe the beast has now grown legs and is trying to get into my hotel room. Not happening.

A funny thing happened this evening. I was boiling water and leaned over the kettle to get something. Really got a scorcher of a burn on my wrist. Went straight to the fridge and pulled out a cold beer to put on my wrist. No thoughts of drinking it, but glad there was no option for a cold bottle of wine

Onward friends -- the struggle continues but we can win.

Hey Free - kudos on overcoming your recent temptations! I think the pringles and oreos are light years less evil than AL!! I do what you're describing too. If I succumb to junk, I always make sure I follow up with some healthy stuff. So glad you're staying strong. I know it's the right thing to do and that alcohol only holds the illusion of something good - it's just all a lie and we make ourselves mental trying to believe otherwise.

Best to you on your trip.:l

            Hey Free

Well done for turning down all the evil booze...

I always feel so virtuous when I don't drink AL on a flight... Not that it's happened that many times...

I hope your trip goes well. I am going to check out the link above now. Thanks for posting x

Hi Free... I'm so far behind... I see that you have traveled already. I'm sorry I didn't get to wish you a good journey before your travel. I'm so proud of you for turning down the drinks! I understand how much strength that takes... Good for you! Keep up the awesome work! :goodjob:

Thanks, UN, Mein, and Wine-no, for the positive feedback. Another AF day and night for me. Work is going to be pretty intense next couple of weeks -- making up for that holiday I had in July, I guess. But, the work is rewarding, my colleagues are interesting, and I am beginning to see progress for our efforts.

Always grateful when I end the official work week with a sense of moving my projects ten yards forward. (Wow, where did that sports analogy come from?). Time to veg, llike Byrdie, in front of TV.

Happy to be AF on this Friday night.

                    On becoming joyfully AF

So today is day 30 AF for me. Am so grateful to have been able to log this many AF days and am feeling as though I am beginning to joyfully accept that I don't drink anymore.

This talk was recommended by others on MWO and I found it enormously insightful and useful. One big point for me is that many people numb vulnerability through addictions. The trouble is when we numb the negative emotions such as pain, suffering, fear, shame, we also numb the positive ones of joy, creativity, belonging, connection. Her final words of advice are wonderful (you'll have to watch the video!) Brené Brown: The power of vulnerability | Video on TED.com

Free, so happy for you! And thank you for the link. I think this concept is an important part of our healing. As others have said, becoming sober is more than just not taking a glass to our lips!

Big congrats! Am happy to be sharing this journey with you.

FAL, huge congratulations to you! I love what Byrdie posted recently about it being 1000 times easier to maintain your quit than it is to start over. Kudos to you for your AF time!

Free, I am so, so, so happy for you and thankful to know you :l.

I've now watched 5 of BB's videos and will probably be getting ahold of her books -- I am hooked! Her discussion of shame (vs. guilt) is particularly enlightening.
There is also one about gratitude - I posted the link to Lav on the 100 day thread.

Have a good rest of the weekend (if you don't have to work on Sunday ) - :h NS
