Nancy, you are sounding great.
Dear Cornczech, I echo Nancy's comments -- please reach out for help. Life is precious. I took it for granted for too long. Not letting alcohol rob me of another moment of being present. Also, is antabuse an option for you? Several people on MWO have had great success with it.Free at Last

Well, hope everyone is staying strong and sober! If you have "OOPSED"...just turn around and get back on the road again...you can do it! Today is #26 without a drop for me! So proud of myself...boy, it's been a long time since I felt like saying that! I DID go to first AA meeting today...very nice, only a group of 5 women and I was the only newbie. They made me feel so welcome...now I can't wait to visit and share with them again next week! As everyone went around the circle to take time to verbalize feelings, I really thought I would pass...I didn't! It became funny at one time...when I mentioned I am a nurse, 2 of the ladies giggled, looked at each other, and exclaimed, "I KNEW IT"! ...They are nurses, also...hmmm...could that show some of the stress of the job! I am finally feeling the shame, failure, lonliness, loss of control, and isolation begin to lift...slow but sure! Hope everyone is having a good evening/night. Hope to see more posts, soon. :-)

nancy that is awesome that you have found a supportive group with so much in common. Makes we wonder if I might give it a try too! So far this forum has kept me going though, maybe in the future.Newbies Nest

June, I hope you are doing well! The ladies told me that not all AA meetings are the same. One said she went to a meeting (granted it was in a bit dicier part of town), walked in and there were a bunch of bikers, no speaker ever showed up, and after 15 minutes, they said, well, I guess this meeting is over! They also told me about another group that seemed to tell their horror stories (I didn't ask them to elaborate beyond that). I don't know where you live, but I was graciously guided to my new group by my counselor. She gave me a pamphlet from AA. It lists what kind of group is meeting, where, and times. Information on every meeting included if :12 step type program, whether there would be a guest speaker, if it was open or closed discussion, open-anyone can attend, closed (only those with a desire to stop drinking may attend), smoking or non, and group meetings for women only. If interested...there is NO commitment, I would call your local AA office and ask them if you could pick up a schedule or if they could mail you one! AND remember-if you go once, and don't like it, you don't have to go back! There were women there from their early thirties to their 70's! It made me feel like ANYONE can fall victim to alcohol! Take care, stay strong, and keep your chin high!

Nancy, so glad to hear that your first meeting was a good one. I have never tried AA because I'm not comfortable in that type of situation. But hmmmm....now you have made me think twice. Glad you doing well. xo

nancy yes when I searched AA in my area there were all kinds of meetings and they specified men only women only, open, closed, etc. I think for now I am good here but in the future I might give it a whirl. I am not religious so that makes it difficult for me. Was there a lot of religion in your meeting?Newbies Nest

nancy43;1524861 wrote: Day 28...and going strong!!! I did get quite upset this afternoon with family Dr. My Sodium is still running low. She was very accusatory of me having relapsed. I offered for her to call my husband, friends, etc., and assured her that there is NOTHING in our home to drink! (Hubby does not drink). This came after she had been preaching to me about high liver enzymes before I stopped drinking...never a congratulatory word that they are nearly normal now. I just felt she was quite downtrodden on me and a bit condescending...THIS just added more fuel to my fire! I furthermore told her that when I was lying in ER bed the last time (May 30)...quit day...I had told my hubby to get everything to drink out of the house...and of course he did so! I am still fuming at her! Sorry for venting...thanks for listening!...PS,,,She DID NOT strip the pride I have in myself, though!!!!
