Hey all - I'm on Day 7 today and feel a challenge coming on. My husband left for out of town for a week today, he's been my rock for the past few days.

AL is calling, I see it on the caller ID, but I'm not picking up:nanner:

Maybe you could do something fun that you don't often do because it isn't something your husband usually enjoys - something that takes you away from the environment in which you used to drink. Like ... Go to an ethnic restaurant or a documentary film, if you like either of those like I do. I love to go to bed early, especially because I always wake up early. So, that is something I enjoy when my schedule is all mine. Or... Read back on a MWO thread and see how much people have changed (for the better) .

Your 7 days (Congratulations!) are worth protecting!

go and do what you like and enjoy
don't go back to day 1 it took a lot of work to get to day 7 that's the worse the first week
My Hubby is away for a week also I was worrried I would give in when he was away but it hasn't been a problem .......I've been eating instead I was going to change my diet but didn't work
I also have a mess all over the house I have to start cleaning up before he gets home ......I did a bit of tiding up in my sewing room and also have a cot quilt nearly finished .......which i also have to finish to-day

Gardener - How great that you recognized this challenge and reached out for help! You will feel an amazing sense of empowerment when you reach the other side of this first big challenge. I remember asking for help when I had to face an empty house early in my quit.

Like all the others have suggested, there are 3 effective ways to deal with this: Distraction, Distraction and Distraction. I also rewarded myself for remaining sober. I took a portion fo the money I would've spent on smokes and booze and bought a big pot of orange dinnerplate dahlias for my garden! I'm looking forward to seeing them bloom again soon!

What can you reward yourself with? Besides doing something nice for yourself, you'll be building healthy, new neural pathways that connect the idea of good things happening with being sober.

There will be more 'Firsts' as you chalk up the days and months and years ahead - the first sober birthday, Christmas, wedding, vacation and on and on and on. These FIRSTS build your AF muscles and before you know it, you are really strong and the challenges no longer seem nearly as big.

Seven days is great! Living AF really does get better and better every day and in every way....You are doing this!

Turnagain - you've got a 2 year anniversary coming up!! Congratulations on that in advance. Thanks for your advice, and, I've been eyeing my reward since day one,

I am so thankful to everyone here in making me feel comfortable enough to ask for help. This really, really helps me to take my mind off ugly AL. I felt the urge come on today so strong this afternoon as I contemplated my evening. Sneaky AL was talking up a storm to me. I came on here and the urge is gone. I had a wonderful steak dinner, had my toes done and ran by the bookstore for the bestseller I've been waiting for, (in hardback to boot)!

My evening is set, thank you all, so very very much.

And, Sugarbeat - I did play that youtube video, love that song, that era in music is my era, but can't remember hearing that song before. Loved it though.
