    7 Days Sober Challenge..

    Good Evening all

My drinking has become increasingly heavier over the last Month.

I'm drinking 2 bottles of wine a night and am exhausted and am finding everything I do an effort..

Time to do something about it...

I'm aiming for a Week without alcohol....

Anyone who wants to join me and check in a few times a Day for the next Week?

    David x

Going to my GP Tomorrow to get some Valium....

Also having a good mate call in or phone in the evening to make sure I'm on track for the Week...

I have some Antabuse but will wait until I'm a week AF before considering them....

            7 Days Sober Challenge..

Hi David - Just finished my 14 days, the first 7 for me were not as bad as I thought it would be. Like you, I drank 2 bottles of wine per night for probably 10 years or so. Been drinking over 25 years, but the last ten were steady.

My worst problem was sleeping. I did take sleep aids (ambien) for one week. For me, getting a good nights rest made all the difference the first week. I don't take anything now and I do toss and turn a bit, but sleep OK enough to get by.

Congratulations on your decision to try AF, honestly I haven't felt this good mentally in a long time and am getting my confidence back. All the best, G

                  David,

Good idea to try for a week AF at first. If you find that too difficult, just break it down into days at a time.

If you find yourself planning to drink, come on here and post, call out for help, etc. The urge only lasts a couple of minutes, especially if you redirect your thoughts to something else.

I found reading something silly helped me. Laughter is good medicine. In my case, it was an old book of Calvin and Hobbes.

Sleep can be elusive at first. For truly heavy drinkers, it can take weeks to get a good night's sleep after going AF. I imagine for you, a week or so will do it.

Be careful of Ambien. It is addictive, do not rely on it too heavily.

I look forward to watching your progress.

David, Hampstead is a beautiful area. I am a little confused because your profile says that you live in Melbourne. To answer your question I live in Wapping.

BTW if you want to get encouragement and keep track of your AF days I recommend posting your day count on Newbies Nest Roll Call thread and if you need some urgent support or advice you can always stop by the most popular thread on MWO which is Newbies Nest. Everyone there is very welcoming and there is always someone to talk to.

                          Hey David
glad you made it through day 1. A lot of it is a matter of breaking a routine, substitutions, like reading Calvin & Hobbes's book as Cinders pointed out. Good luck to you and keep checking in, even if you don't post... read, read, read.
