Day 1 of a new life

I am tired of waking up everyday-Saying this is the day I start over and then night rolls around and I fail. I am tired of existing and not living anymore. I bought a journal, actual Khudzu roots that I boil from a Korean lady at the market, my mom sent me L-Glutamine to the island, and my girlfriend is 100% behind on my decision. Today I REALLY going to make a stand start my taper, write down what supplements I take, any withdrawal symptoms, feelings or thoughts, and really do this. Anyone with any tips or other advice it would be greatly appreciated. I think it is safer to taper because I live on an island in Asia and the only hospital is an hour away and suspect at best. Also, anyone with any remedies, foods, or drinks that make it easier would help too. Thanks a lot.

Day 1 of a new life

Stay well hydrated and keep someone with you. Check out the newbie's nest and the toolbox. Read here and post at least once a day. It really works. If you want to quit you Can. Hang tough. I will check back later.:welcome:
No matter how far you go or how fast you run, you can't get away from yourself. ....said at an AA meeting. It stuck with me.

Thanks little beagle. Just checked the toolbox and will keep posting. Optimistic about the day-I am in Asia so it is morning here. It's sunny and nice outside: Already inspiring me and this journey to being alcohol free!

Day 1 of a new life

spicoli: Good luck. I had a relapse last summer after 3 years sober. Now, I focus my efforts on staying sober one day at a time. I like sobriety so much better than my drinking life. No fun there...especially at the end. I find MWO very helpful. Also, I go to AA meetings & that made all the difference. Mary

good job spicoli, you CAN do this! one piece of advice id like to give is dont overthink your withdrawal symptoms,i did that too many times and would scare myself into drinking thinking i was dying, most symptoms come in very short waves thatll pass quickly anyways,be strong my friend
I have too much shit to do today and tomorrow to drink:sohappy:

I'm taking care of the "tomorrow me"
Drinkin won't help a damn thing! Will only make me sick for DAYS and that ugly, spacey dumb feeling-no thanks!

LOVE that name, reminds me of one of my favorite movies!

Not much to add because everyone is spot on in their posts. When you are ready to quit, it is doable.

Redirect the brain...when a thought to drink enters, just tell yourself in your head....I dont drink, and repeat over and over. Eventually your AL brain will tire of the fight, and your new AF brain will stand above the big number one on the podium

Day 1 of a new life

                  Hi Spicoli,
in the same boat totally, my life seems to mirror yours. No matter what the state of my body, my families feelings and what's left in my purse, the thought of 'socialising' without AL terrifies me. Though being honest, my socialising these days consists of me slumped on the couch fast asleep full of two bottles of wine (min). It's good to know that we have this support eh? Wishing you success, and happiness.

Thanks for all the positive advice and thoughts. One day at a time and I am trying to hike and surf and be outside in nature. Take deep breaths and be positive. I know it will be a tough road, but this time I am TOTALLY committed. I will keep posting-Just knowing all you good people are out there helps. I love this site and the support. Thanks again!

                          Hi Spicoli,

I hope you are doing okay? I don't really have anything to add to the advice already given but I just want you to know that I recognise what you are going through and that I am with you my friend.
