    Alcohol Free August

Hi NS, recognizing the 311 gang is a good idea. I'm going to post a shout out to see how some of the original members (who we haven't heard from) are doing.

good deal on 6 days AF!
Ha, thanks Sam. Yeah that happens to me fairly often- when I'm successfully living sober, I often have bad dreams that I mess it up by getting hammered. Just like when I'm successfully eating healthy, I often have dreams of eating doughnuts! Mmmm.... doughnuts.

I always like it when I wake up relieved, knowing I haven't blown my healthy streak. That is, of course, except for when I actually HAVE blown my healthy streak.

back from Camping ..... AF August continues onward!
Put your hands over your heart - and tell yourself that you are going to guard this essence of who you are with everything. Alcohol opens us up to darkness and depression instantly. You choose love today. Guard it by keeping the poison out of your body. It IS poison.

I posted on the July thread that I thought you were so smart to become AF while still in your 30s. It was in my 40s that my drinking really started to escalate to the point of addiction. Glad to hear you are doing so well.
Thanks free and No Sugar for the welcome back, I too wonder where the 311 gang stands at this moment. Battling addiction is no easy task, I just knew that I didn't want to remain how I was (an AL blackout binger since my teens) into my 40s. My addiction was catching up to the point where my family and work were definitely at risk. I didn't want to lose everything I loved because of &^%$ booze. I was tring for some type of redemption from all the horrific paths I took while AL was a huge part of my life. As Ann Carolina said, we can not change the past but we most definitely can create a better future for ourselves. Thanks to the MWO and some strong soul searching, I finally came to terms with my demons and the truth. Here I feel so not alone. For those on the Alcohol Free August month remember you deserve a better life, and for us that means an AF life. :l :h
On a mission, and the only option is success. My family and I deserve a better life, an AF life.:h

Day 9 AF. Going to a family dinner in celebration of my bday... I'd definitely get drunk if not for my Baclofen/Antabuse, my commitment to 30 days AF, and you folks.

Just watched two great TED talks (thank you MWO member who posted on this) by Brene Brown. The first on vulnerability and the second on shame. Great insights into addiction. These really hit home with me. Today marks 30 AF days for me. Not stopping here, this is a process, not an event.
