Great insights into addiction. These really hit home with me. Today marks 30 AF days for me. Not stopping here, this is a process, not an event.

Brené Brown: Listening to shame | Video on TED.comPut your hands over your heart - and tell yourself that you are going to guard this essence of who you are with everything. Alcohol opens us up to darkness and depression instantly. You choose love today. Guard it by keeping the poison out of your body. It IS poison.

Quick greeting to say hello and how wonderful to wake up with no worries or loss of memory from the night before. Dashing this off as the cleaning people are pounding on my door. Stay strong everyone, we are making progress.Free at Last

Hi Everyone,
Happy to be continuing my AF journey with all of you! Feeling so great mentally and physically. Deeply rested after a wonderful night's sleep. Then had a nice jog followed up by some abs exercises. Energized and so happy to be on the right track.
Hope everyone has a lovely day.

Hi UN, glad to have you back among the internet connected.
Proud to report I made it to the gym, sauna, ate nutritious meals (no chocolate, potatoe chips, or ice cream today!), and now will meditation before calling it a day. Feeling so virtuous. Sipping herbal tea and ready to call it a night.Free at Last

Hey Augusters....I can't believe it will be time to start a September thread soon. Free...congratulations on your 30 days!!!!!!
I had a nice weekend.....had a great dinner with my husband last night. Had dinner out with my daughter and husband tonight. I ordered mango flavored tea, my daughter had lemonade and my husband had a Long Island iced tea....I only had a brief thought about the drink then I focused on what I was going to eat.
Made it to the gym 3 days last week. Heading back tomorrow.
Free....do you use a meditation app and if so, what is it?Miley

Day 10 AF. Felt extremely tired and low motivation most of yesterday and today. A definite slump. Also a little deflated cuz I'm eating really clean and healthy and still not losing any significant weight... I know it's a long process and I must be patient.
But unlike when I was drinking, the day was not a total waste, cuz no hangover. Thankful for that, and keeping it in mind that sober life will occasionally be hard, sad, tiring, depressing... and experiencing those things sober is a much much better way to live life that trying to drown myself in poison.
@Miley and Free- regarding meditation apps, another member told me that the app "Satify" (typo intentional) is a good one. I'm going to try it out tomorrow.

Skully...
10 Days is fantastic! I went through the same thing back in June when I did 30 days. I thought I would feel a lot better than I did but I was really tired. I also expected the weight to drop off quickly and of course it didn't.....it didn't take 10 days of abusing AL for my body to get like this so it wasn't going to repair itself in 10 days. I heard it takes about 60 days to start feeling and seeing physical changes. I'll try the app....thank you! I had a hard time falling asleep last night, so I will give it a try tonight.Miley

Reporting in another AF day/night for me. I lost 4 pounds in the past 30 days but that is because I spent two weeks backpacking, not because of cutting alcohol from my diet. Am told by those with more AF time, the weight will start to come off down the road (like 4-6 months). One thing we do know, the weight will continue creeping up if we drink.

Day 12 AF. It's my birthday, I'm 37 today. Glad I made the decision to live my bday AF. And tomorrow will be a new AF record for me in the past few years! Sober life is sometime tiresome and exasperating but ultimately good... much better than living life as the living dead (ie, hammered/hungover every other day).

Way to go SBL!! Giving ourselves sobriety is truly a gift - we can become fully human rather than zombies contending with all the ills alcohol brings our way. So happy for you!
Having a great day today everyone - hope you guys are too.
