    Let's Try This Again

    Hi Woof!
Sorry about the sleep problems, that's very common when quitting alcohol. It DOES get better, just be patient. Remember, you didn't get to this point overnight, so you are not going to heal overnight either. Try to eat healthy and drink plenty of liquids. It should only take a few days to start physically feeling better...then you can concentrate on the mental part. Hang in there, you're doing great!

      Let's Try This Again

      Hi Woofer,

What a story you have to tell. I did a lot of what you have done, but not in such glamorous and exotic environments - there is nothing glamorous about being thrown out of a pub in Partick, Glasgow with the last thing you hear being.. "and don't come back."

All in the past now though. You are in a good place here and I am sure you will find your path to real recovery soon.

      Best wishes, Neddy.

        Let's Try This Again

Woke up for a bit today after rolling around in bed all night at about 2pm. At some food and went back to bed and woke back up just now at about 8pm. I'm feeling a bit less twitchy I think, finally got a few straight hours of sleep. I think I'm gonna try and stay up for 24 hours so I can get back on a proper sleep schedule, this going to sleep when the sun comes up has to stop, it's depressing There's a SMART meeting at 10:30 that I might go to if I don't look (and feel) like a wild haired lunatic. For now it's back to working on my website for my company and listening to some motivational speakers. Hope everyone had a wonderful day, I slept Day 2 away but it's almost in the bag.

          Let's Try This Again

          Hi Woof!
Good job in getting through day 2! I know the sleep thing sucks right now, but it will even out if you can just be patient. Have you ever tried Melatonin? It's good for helping you get to sleep. Getting on a schedule is a great idea. I recently broke my foot and was home for 7 weeks and so I know how depressing it can be to sleep all day and be up all night!! Hang in there and welcome to day 3!!

Hey gang, thanks for the posts. I'm doing much better, thanks Sleep is still hard to come by, but I did get a few hours last night, and I'm starting to feel human again.

I'm with K9 try melatonin, camomile, hot milk, whatever it takes. I am on night shift so I totally know about going to sleep when the sun comes up and how depressing that can be. Still you might want to treat this like the flu, sleep when you can, eat as much as you can, stay hydrated. Most of all, stay close, we're here to help!

                  Let's Try This Again

                  Woof,

I want to add my :welcome: to the mix.

Your story is very familiar to me. Although I still go to AA, I dont' have a sponsor at this time and I truly have issues with the HP thing. Funny, I am a Christian and all but I just never feel like God is going to help me.

                  Like you, though, whatever works.

If there aren't enough SMART meetings in your area, maybe you can start one of your own? See if you get any comers?

A good set of healthy relationships is very important for all of us, at your age probably more so than at mine.

I am glad you are here. :-)

Sleep will come, as you know. In my case, it always took several weeks to start sleeping normally. Four months or so out, I just take Melatonin at night, which I would do anyway because of other health reasons. I sleep pretty well. You will get there.

                      Let's Try This Again

Hey gang, another check in with good news this time. After I woke up this morning after a few hours of sleep I felt ok, but a couple hours later I started feeling tired again, so I ate a sandwich and took a nap. When I woke up I felt absolutely awful, sick to my stomach, dizzy, depressed, and overall just awful. I had a cup of coffee and tried to feel better but it just wasn't happening. I even started to consider going to the store and getting a 22 of beer to feel better, but I did a quick CBA in my head to see if that would be the best decision.

Benefits of having a beer right now:

                      - Temporary relief of physical and mental withdrawal symptoms

Costs of having a beer right now:

                      - Let myself down on my plan to stay sober
                      - Let my family down
                      - Possibly starting up further drinking/binge
                      - Possible legal issues
                      - Effects will only be temporary and will further the withdrawal process

So, the right choice was clear and I decided that drinking would be a bad idea. I still have some of my Trileptal prescription left from a while back, so I took 300mg. I then decided to get out of the house and pick up some things from the store that I needed. While I was out I drove by a Vitamin Shoppe and remembered an article that I read in the "Research" section of these boards on some of the supplements that help with mood. I picked up some L-Glutamine and GABA, and took a recommended dose of each about half an hour ago.

I definitely feel much better with the actions I took rather than giving in to the easy solution. I still feel a little weird but I feel much, much better Again, if I don't feel to weirded out I'll try to get to the 7pm SMART meeting, we'll see how that goes.

Well done on not buying the beer Woof. You reasoned it out and the costs far outweighed the 'benefits'. I don't know what Trileptal is, but I am glad that it helped. You sound so much better, well done!

I am so proud of you Woof! You thought it through and made the best decision. Buying that beer would have just delayed the inevitable...the withdrawals are gonna happen so you might as well get them over with! I'm so glad you're feeling better. Remember to try to eat healthy and drink lots of fluids...you'll soon be over this hump.

You are really an inspiration to many here...I wish that I'd "thought it through" more often, I could have saved myself a lot of trouble and grief. But live and learn and move on. Keep up your great work!

                            Let's Try This Again

broken halo - Trileptal is a medication used sometimes for anxiety...the problem with it before was that it helped with my anxiety but made me dead tired. I've even read that it's used for withdrawal from other stuff sometimes, so lucky me I had a few left and it helped me through a couple rough patches. I'm gonna stop taking it as I think it's further messing with my sleep. K9, thank you, you all have been inspiring me quite a bit and I'm glad I found MWO Still not much sleep happening here, although I screwed up with the caffeine last night. I went to a 7pm SMART meeting and at the vending machine I just instinctively got a Mt. Dew, which was really stupid, shoulda just got water. I'm gonna hit a noon meeting shortly, come home and try to get some work done. Hope everyone has an awesome day!
