Hey TJAF, well done on your sober time and thanks for posting the Craig Ferguson quote. I have been reading a bit about him and he really impresses me. As do you my friend

one week a lifetime to go
Thanks for the advice. Don't worry about the "staying full" thing, I'm like the blob these days...eating everything in site. Plan on getting back to the gym next week. I just want another week to get over the incredible fatigue I'm going through now. I have been drinking lots of water and have made sure I'm getting plenty of vits including the B's and I've finally been able to sleep without constant interruption, but man I am tired. Also went through a couple of days of headaches and stomach cramps and overall malaise. No real cravings outside of sugar (which I usually hate). I have to remind myself that as bad as the symptoms have been its better than the blackouts, dizziness, blurred vision, memory lapse, gastritis, moodiness, depression, no energy (other than to drink) and otherwise miserible life that I had while drinking.Happiness is neither virtue nor pleasure nor this thing nor that but simply growth, We are happy when we are growing.

Hi TJAF
You're doing such a great job! I am also craving sugar and don't usually have a sweet tooth... I will cross that bridge in a week or two.
I hope you are feeling much better soon.AF since Halloween 2016

Wine-no thanks for the encouragement. Pat yourself on the back as well. As for my message, although I am eating everything onsite I am also eating everything in sight.Happiness is neither virtue nor pleasure nor this thing nor that but simply growth, We are happy when we are growing.

Had quite the test yesterday. Went fishing with friends and there was plenty of booze aboard. While I had a passing thought about how nice a cold beer would taste I was never seriously tempted. Proud of myself. Toughest time was having to explain endlessly why I didn't want a beer. I 'm not out of the closet so I stuck with Doctor's orders (which is true) .Happiness is neither virtue nor pleasure nor this thing nor that but simply growth, We are happy when we are growing.

TJ, great job in passing a difficult test. People have no clue for the most part and if they haven't experienced trying to quit drinking, they just don't get it. Insane that we have to explain not putting poison into our bodies, but that's just the way our society has been socially engineered. Kudos to you!

Thanks UW. Its so true. I have gotten, "the look" from friends when I've turned them down for a drink. I don't think they mean any harm. I havent opened up to anyone about why I'm not drinking so I can hardly expect sensitivity or care in return. So many of my friends are also peers at work and I just cant bring myself to open up. There is such a stigma on alcoholics that I'm afraid it would damage my career.Happiness is neither virtue nor pleasure nor this thing nor that but simply growth, We are happy when we are growing.

TJ, well done on 3 weeks. That's fantastic.
I totally get what you're saying about opening up. It shouldn't be hard, but it is. There's so much confusion and mixed messaging about alcohol. And, it depends on who you're talking to. Some people would really admire you, but some wouldn't get it and it might make everyone uncomfortable. I tell people that I love wine, but that it doesn't love me and that the least bit disrupts my sleep (which happens to be true). I remember someone who didn't drink and she always said she would have an allergic reaction. No one ever argues or looks askance at someone who can't drink for health reasons. But, just say anything different and people will look at you like you have two heads.:H You could always say you had developed an allergy -- you know, the way your body processes it has changed!
Oh, well, it's the world in which we live. But, I have to say, a few years ago I was the same as those people we're now discussing. I would have thought someone was nuts for not drinking.
Best to you, and congrats on your AF time.

out of town this week and doing well. Still getting an occasional but wicked headache and the sugar cravings are pretty strong but doing real well without AL. In a small town and the choices for food are real slim. Consequently ate in a bar yesterday. Had a burger and enjoyed people watching. Gotta think that drunk folks woiuld never drink if they could watch themselves .Happiness is neither virtue nor pleasure nor this thing nor that but simply growth, We are happy when we are growing.

TJ, there really is something very unattractive about drunk people, isn't there? :H
By the way, I indulge myself with lots of food to help with the alcohol issues. If I eat sugar I just try to balance out with healthy food later in the day. I think as long as you don't go too overboard you'll be ok.
So happy for you and your success so far! Congrats on staying strong while traveling.

It will be one month tomorrow. Longest Ive gone in 4 years. Prior to that it had been 3 months. Looking forward to getting past that point. Then 6 months. Its funny how sly our brains can be. The longer you go the more you think how easy it would be to moderate. I don't think so. Fortunately I have been down that road before. Next stop 3 months.Happiness is neither virtue nor pleasure nor this thing nor that but simply growth, We are happy when we are growing.

tjaf, sorry it has taken me so long to stop by and say hello and welcome. I just read through all your posts, and am proud of you for staying strong. Withdrawl is awful - physically and mentally. And I agree with the others, it only gets worse with each quit. But, it looks like you have gotten some very good advice. Eating well and often is definitely helpful.
I'm another one who has no off switch. For years, I tried to moderate but I have now realized that it is never going to be an option for me. And 5pm is the witching hour for me too. As allswell said, we arrive home stressed, and hungry. Our blood sugar is bottoming out. It's just too easy to reach for a glass of poison. I've started using my crockpot a lot more these days. Dinner is ready when I get home. Once I eat, my cravings subside a bit.
You are doing great.
