    2 week going strong !!

    Hello Everyone,

I completed my 2 weeks without AL today. I am travelling currently in rapperwil , Switzerland. Alone in room. Mini bar full of miniatures, next to a beer garden. But resisting ! I feel so proud but at the same time quite bored. There is no much to do in evenings.

I was tempted though ... In evening went for inner a few wine bottles popping up ... Am glad I resisted.

Thanks for your support .... I have never been sober for 2 weeks in last 10 years !!

Congrats! Pat yourself on the back!!!!! I hit three weeks today so the next week for you should be a piece of cake! Ha. I'm traveling tomorrow so I'm sure to face the same temptations. Hope they have a good gym at the hotel! Now if I can just kick the sugar habit....I hate sugar but in the last three weeks cant seem to get enough.

Congrats, Rahul, what a great accomplishment and every consecutive day you add to this AF journey will be a new milestone for you. That's something to keep you going.
I just returned to my hotel room after a long day at my consulting gig. Ordered room service and set my mind against opening the mini-bar. If you think you will be tempted with the mini-bar, you can ask them to clear the fridge. I have done that.

TJAF, am told many people experience the sugar cravings. I know I do. I've been taking L Glutamine and it helps. But the expert on sugar is No Sugar. You could PM her with a question.

Rahul, well done! Don't be bored! Go for a walk, read a book, play solitaire, paint your toenails, anything but drinking to pass the time!

You should be very proud of yourself my friend, well done!

Thanks all for all your support. I cannot express my thanks to you all. You all have given strength.

TJAF you are right I am having lots of sugar carvings and have been satisfying myself till now. Drinking coke, eating junk food like pizzas, chocolates, ice cream. It's helping to control the carvings. I am not sure if I am doing the right thing. When. As drinking a lot of beer, never used to carve for ice creams of chocolates etc ... I know alcohol is sugar.

No sugar what who'd you advice at this stage.

Free at last , am don't having carvings by looking at bottles. But am pretty sure if I have one drink then I won't be able to stop.

I am realising everyday how I have missed out on life all these years.

TJAF we will make it together ... Love you all !!

Rahul..Awesome AF time......I am sure that all of us can relate to boredom as a trigger. Find something to do...anything....and keep on going!

              Hi, Rahul

You are doing really well and are on your way to a much better life .

The sugar cravings are very normal right after you quit drinking - sugar gives you calories, an increase in blood sugar, and the pleasant reward your brain thinks it needs and is no longer getting from alcohol.

If I were you, I would eat as much high quality, unprocessed food as possible. Keeping full with the foods your body needs might help with the AL and sugar cravings. However, right now and for the next several weeks, your top priority has to be not drinking! So, if eating something sweet is what it takes to prevent you from doing that, go ahead and eat it. (Fruit is a good choice and might do the trick for you). There will be time later when you've been AF for awhile and are comfortable in that new life for working on your diet. It took all of us awhile to get our bodies into this mess and it will take awhile to undo it. Patience with yourself is important right now. You need to be celebrating each day you remain AF - eating some cookies or ice cream shouldn't diminish that.

So, stay AF, eat well, and you might find that the sugar cravings take care of themselves. Also, L-glutamine can be used for sugar and alcohol cravings (if your liver and kidneys are ok and you don't have cancer).

Long-term, a diet without alcohol or added sugar (processed foods) is a pretty good way to go, in my opinion, but for now, keep your eyes on the AF prize!

I'm so glad you are here - NS

Congrats! Rahul on the two week mark. Keep it up! Wine-No and I also hit 14 days today! As for the sugar cravings, was wondering about them myself. Never had sugar cravings before, in fact I considered myself a salty person. Was thinking it was my body craving the lack of sugar that I used to get from wine. Trying to reach for fruit instead of chocolate or processed garbage like you said NS. So am stocking the frig with lotsa fruit as well. Peanut butter may satisfy some of those cravings too, plus has protein. Would that be good?

Good to hear L-Glutamine may help here - going to get some today. Also, the weight loss from no drinking has been noticeable, but worried all the extra sugar I'm eating will pack those pounds back on. BTW - I've noticed an improvement in skin tone and firmness (lower body in particular). Is it because all the toxins are being washed away by all the water I'm now drinking? I'm definitely liking it!
