    First steps

Here we go......stepping off....rather stepping away from the abyss!

I first came to this site 7 years ago. Posted for awhile. Had some af runs but never made it to 30 days.. For the last few years I have lurked intermittently but not posted. "Didn't need to......your posts told my story!"

    I AM DONE!

So here I am day one,

I would love to hear your wisdom. I have to make this happen!

I am doing the following sups:
    L glutamine
    5 htp
    Milk thistle
    Vitamin b
    GABA

Am I leaving anything crucial out? Kudzu did not do much for me in the past.

    Anxious......but feeling hopeful!

Hi Buggirl (love the name, my daughter loves bugs!),

Do you take vitamin C? That's the only one I might add, and some kind of Omega 3 (fish or flax seed based) which is supposed to be good for brain function.

Welcome back! I find that posting daily gives me a lot more bang for the buck than reading/lurking, which is pretty non committal. I'm speaking about my own experience here of doing both! Would you consider joining us in the nest? It's a wonderful and supportive place.

      Hi, Buggirl,

Your supplement list looks good. Add to that eating well and keeping full. Your brain can mistake low blood sugar as a "need" for alcohol.

What are the action parts of your plan? If you want input, you might want to head over to the busy Newbies Nest (link below) where you could bounce your ideas off of people who have been there or are about where you are. Have you read through that Toolbox recently?

Anyway, :welcome: back to MWO. Hope to see you over in the nest, NS

          Hello & welcome Buggirl!

Glad you decided to rejoin us
Putting a good plan together for yourself is essential. Good supplements, good food, a bit of exercise all go a long way. I found the MWO Hypno CDs to be very helpful in helping me learn to relax without AL on board & change my thinking about AL entirely
Reading & posting everyday helps keep your sobriety your #1 focus!

Wishing you the best & be sure to drop in the Newbies Nest thread for ongoing support!

I love bugs too! Welcome back!

Treat yourself kindly the first few days (almost as if you have the flu). Lots of liquids and healthy food and rest. Your body will soon be over the physical withdrawal, then you can concentrate on the mental aspect of quitting. We are here for you...please stick around!

              Hi BG,

Just wanted to congratulate you on your decision to go for 30 Days! Sounds like you have a good supplement plan going. As others have said, I would agree too that posting daily helps you stay connected and committed.

My experience has been that I have had setbacks, but because of how well I felt after chunks of AF time, I knew I wanted to get back to that and be successful despite my intermittent falls back into the abyss. Once you realize how much better you can feel, you become reluctant to get back into the rut of drinking.

              Best to you,

              UN

I'm day 5. Feeling good today. Anyone any tips re side effects? If I feel ok today am I suddenly going to get hit with shakes or insomnia now? I'm hoping not. I was feeling very tired had weird dreams but apart from that all ok.

Bugirl nice to meet you! I'm so glad your day went well and you're feeling so positive. Putting a plan together is a good idea in case you have a moment of weakness. Also I do suggest that you get rid any AL in your house.

Hi and Welcome Buggirl. Not much experience here with quitting - only on day 16, but I am also taking Sam-e. Supposed to be good to help with depression and a mood lifter of sorts. Also, taking b12 and L glutamine. Oh and I started back on D as well. Many have already chimed in as far as following a good nutrition plan and drinking lotsa water. Exercise helps me a lot as well.
                      Glad to see you here!

One more thing - came across a list of some essential foods for liver health. Listed were:
                        Almonds
                        Oats
                        Berries
                        Salmon
                        Soybeans
                        Teas, green or black
                        Broccoli
                        Kidney beans
                        Spinach
Sweet potato, pumpkin, butternut and acorn squash, carrots
                        Vegetable juice

                        Anyone else have additions here.
Others - Is this a good list from your experience and knowledge of nutrition?
