I made a mess of my finances during that time- my god, the bank took my house after 15 years. One of my motivating factors to join MWO and finally get sober. You can dig out. It's hard, but not impossible. You are doing great.
Thanks MissRoss, I am just fortunate I have never gotten to the point of being deeply in the hole. I have still managed to cover my rent, car payment, insurance, student loan payments, utilities, etc. I just burned through pretty much everything else like I had a hole in my pocket.

About the only permanent damage I did was run up almost 4 grand on my credit card, but I hope to have a budget in place soon to get that bad boy paid down as well. I look at the itemized list of charges on my financial statements and think to myself "What in the F*&% was I thinking" ?

And the truth was, I obviously was not thinking, or at least in my right mind, but I am trying not to beat myself up over it. I am going to deal with it and move on, and hopefully never be foolish enough to put myself in the same situation again.

Shoes, flowers, extra (healthy) treats for beagles, new dishes, perfume, well each month on my monthly celebration I look over Amazon.com and find something I really want. Life is a celebration and I do celebrate each milestone because it encourages me to keep going.
BHalo, I love Mediterranean salads, too!

C-d I was in bad financial trouble before finding mwo. That was one of my main incentives to stop the stupidity. When I drink al, there is no adult in charge so all common sense goes out the window. I do not miss that.
