Advice on Dieting
I just wanted some feedback regarding dieting while I am in the middle of trying to get 30 days (and beyond) again. I haven't been too worried about my eating because I have been focusing on remaining AF. Redwine posed about a juice fast a couple of days ago and I began looking into it but I am afraid of becoming too hungry, etc. Any words of wisdom are appreciated!Miley

Advice on Dieting
I am still having problems with my dieting at 4 months. I try but if I get too hungry I notice thoughts of al creeping in. I personally would rather maintain my weight or even gain a pound rather than lose my quit. My opinion is do what you feel is best, but if you feel yourself having cravings, eat something. That really does help me. My body tends to confuse hunger and al cravings.No matter how far you go or how fast you run, you can't get away from yourself. ....said at an AA meeting. It stuck with me.

Miley, your sobriety HAS to be your #1 priority right now!
Why not increase your exercise & make small dietary changes for now? At some point a few months down the road you will be stronger & ready to tackle a new challenge.
LB, I think most of us confuse hunger with AL cravings!

ditto what Lavande said.
no sudden changes in diet are likely to do you any favors. your body is doing backflips just adjusting to sobriety for at least a few weeks. once you are good and steady, your body will give you more accurate feedback on some tweaking you may want to do on your diet. remember to get lots of sleep too!

Miley, I have been a juicer for quite some time and yes it is a wonderful adjunct to quitting AL . But I think it may be too much for your system to go on any kind of juice fast right now, IMHO. At least without medical guidance. I am not against juice fasting, but fresh juice makes your body detox very quickly and for those of us who have drank for years, I'm worried about what a quick detox may do - throw off blood sugar, increase cravings for AL, etc. I'm not a professional so this is just my opinion.
Maybe someone with more experience in this area will come along with better advice. As I've said - I juice every day, but am leery of a complete juice fast this early in my recovery. Just my 2 cents

Thanks for the input everyone.....I'll wait until I stabalize. I have increased my gym time to 4-5 days a week, so that should helpMiley

miley make your sobriety no. one of your priorities. Instead of thinking of a juice fast why not eat lots of salads (without the dressings) and homemade soups. I found spinach rich non-creamy soups with garlic and red lentils in them really great in my early AF days. eat lots of fruit rather than juicing it. It's also more filling. Nuts in small quantities are also great for the hunger pangs.
Good luck and don't agonise over weight. Slimness is not always indicative of good health or a calm mind
