    Coming Clean

    Hello, there, Miley,
I am praying that something resinates with me this time so that I don't have to keep starting over again. My counselor told me yesterday that this is a process but honestly, I am ready for this to be over, my patience is wearing thin.
The most difficult part of getting and staying sober for me was the above. I wanted my addiction to "be over."

Once I decided to get and stay sober, I also realized this will never be completely finished, like a tooth pulled or a infection cleared up. We will continue to have to manage this the rest of our lives. I didn't want to have to do that before. Now I do.

Alcoholism is more like diabetes. We can treat it but it doesn't ever go away.

People live with chronic conditions all the time. We can, too.

Never give up trying to give up. :-)

      Great point, Cinders

And think how lucky we are -- there is a known "cure" that actually saves rather than costs money! We don't have to take steroids or retroviral inhibitors or methotrexate or any of the other toxic drugs that so many people have to take each and every day. I have a couple other problems that can be managed by diet, also, and feel so fortunate that I can take responsibility for and control of my 3 main issues.

for some reason the disease thing always bothered me... that I'd never be cured. Guess it is all really a matter of choice of how to look at things, What I have perceived it that there's the addiction thingy AND recognizing that we are putting poison in us. Once I began thinking that way and knowing it to be true.... just ask anyone with a hangover, it was a huge light at the end of the tunnel. Do I drink bleach? Of course not, so when experiencing being sick, why not stop that which is doing it. A very simplistic scenario but this being my one billionth time stopping, it seemed to help.

Again, every person's perception is different... just my 2 cents.

I don't know that I think of this as a disease, Sam. There is something about my body that makes 3 things toxic for me. So, I don't eat them and I don't have the problems. I will always have the potential for the problems.

Maybe it is sort of like the "does a tree falling make a sound if there is no one there to hear it" question .

            Miley,
I'm so glad you came right back! Pouring the rest of the wine out took a lot of strength and I admire you for that! I was never able to pour anything out until the day after when I felt like crap. You have more inner strength than you probably realize. I hope you have a great day, and in in 10 days I want to see a cute pic!

Thanks K9....I am looking forward to my new purchase!

For some reason I am absolutely exhausted tonight....of course it could be that I got up at 445 this morning to go to the gym for my class. It will be great tomorrow to wake up without a hangover!

Hey Miley, speaking of being tired, I have had the nastiest problems sleeping since I came off the booze (8 days), I had to take 3 tylenol PM last night to knock me out.

The amino acid, tryptophan, also can be effective.

Valarian root seems to work for me. One caution though....its really tastes and smells bad

IMHO the side effects are part of the process. Sleeplessness, wanting to eat a lot, irritability, moodiness; all symptoms to expect and endure. A small amount of pain for a huge gain. Ride it out, it will get better!

TJ is right...Valerian smells like a bottle of dirty socks. LOL

I use melatonin almost every night, you can buy it in different mg's...I think you build up a tolerance up to it because I am up to about 15 mgs, whereas 3 used to knock me out!

Miley - I used to get up to go to the gym at 4:45am too...I did that for about 6 months, my 16 year old nephew even used to go with me. Then he joined the swim team and water polo team and got all muscular and left me in the dust. LOL Soo...are you on day 2 or 3? Sorry, I'm bad at counting. Whatever it is...good job and keep it up!
