Tell us more Sparkles. Do you mean it is more difficult IF only one partner wants to quit and the other keeps on drinking?

Sparkles, it is hard if your partner is drinking in front of you, I agree. Hope you're able to work through that issue. Not easy.

          Best to you,

              We cannot do this

My husband said we will make a pact and not drink at all. I cannot drink without drinking a ton. He said he just understand it but he feels he is starting to have a problem with alcohol. He asked me not to blame myself or feel bad. It's a start. I have been trying and having way more good than bad days. Today is a bad day I will be tired and hungover. So over this. Kids were at their dads last night so I had my usual excuse to drink. I have to find other outlets. Is there medication to stop alcohol cravings? What do I say to my doctor?

                Hi Sparkles!
Sorry you're feeling bad today...I hope you can get through it without too much difficulty. I really do think you should go to the Doctor, and just be HONEST. They've heard it all, so nothing is shocking. Just tell them you drink too much and you want to stop but you feel like you need help. And...if that doctor doesn't help...find another one! I am a firm believer in standing up for what you NEED...don't let them tell you otherwise. I hope you and your husband can do this together, that will make it much easier. Please take care and let us know how you are!

sorry for the trouble your having sparkles
My husband has 5-6 beers every night and then he will have red wine after depending on who is here at night he will have more of the red wine ........my husband dosn't understand why some don't want to drink or can't
I just had to ignore his drinking and concentrate on what I want and not be peer pressured

The only time my husband didn't drink was when he had glandular fever ( 6 weeks ) but sure made up for it after and wouldn't admit he has a problem with alcohol

Sparkles - supplements may help but thats what they are - supplements - not magic bullets. You have to want to quit. I really suggest you see your doctor face to face - not over the internet - and have an assessment and ask for advice. Be really honest with the Dr - they have seen it all and more. Quitting is usually a multi-pronged thing - medical support, support groups like MWO (or AA) as well as diet and exercise.
You have to work on your strategy to deal with stopping - that does not depend on your partner. You have done this before :goodjob: so you know its feasible. There are many things we achieve in life - with or without the support of our loved ones.
And lets be honest, sometimes we do things - because they are doing it -(how many times have I heard women say they eat chocolate because their partner brings it home??)
Lots of fun and naughty things that you and your partner can do together that does not require AL.
Yes, you can quit - one day at a time. But get some support too.

                            Hi Sparkles.
There is an entire thread which is cusses medications to stop AL cravings. It is The Meds Thread. You can find it on The Community page

I believe that this entire site was developed around a supplement , meds (topa) and hypno program to help us distance ourselves from AL...

So you are definitely on the right place!! :l
