    3 weeks story and flying

I recently did 3 weeks off the booze, never felt better the weight dropped off me , i felt alive , alert and HAPPY and punched the air each morning with sheer delight of waking fresh

so what happened i went away and my usual trigger is flying i hate doing it sober so i get on it so the anxiety gos away - but i dont then just drink on the flight there and back i drink whilst on holiday - go figure

so what is now stopping me getting back on the dry horse is i am going away again in a month flying so i think i will then stop drinking when i get back - kinda foolish really . i could cancel yet another trip but that would be dumb too

    any thoughts ?

I think the hardest part of getting sober is getting used to feeling emotions and dealing with the crap life throws at you without being buzzed. We get so used to taking the edge off that, once you take the booze away, we're toddlers emotionally speaking.

I think you're justifying your drinking. Of course, ideally you'd not drink, feel your fear, and fly anyway. But even if you can't do that, there is no benefit to you drinking up until your flight. Which do you think would be better, to drink right on through the month or to quit drinking and then to drink one day only? How about you talk to your doctor about your phobia of flying and see if s/he'll prescribe Xanax to you?
