Little things I love about sobriety

Well, I'm only on day four, but thought I'd record some of the 'little' things I'm noticing and loving about my early sobriety (plenty of 'big' things of course - and you couldn't really write a book extolling the pleasurs of the following, but they've been a delighful bonus of 'life without alcohol')

Firstly, going down into my kitchen in the morning to find a clean, neat room - with dishes washed and put away, counters clear and tidy, no spillages to mop up. It's lovely, a really nice start to the day and a reminder of why I'm doing this (compare this with dirty dishes everywhere, bottles littering the floor, half eaten, congealed food etc etc)

Secondly, where previously I would take a double take if I glanced in the mirror first thing (think panda eyes, puffed up skin and a look of shame and utter defeat) I now see a clean faced, moisturised lady with something resembling pride in her eyes already.

And finally, the ability to now go into work and chat knowledgeably about a TV show all my colleagues are watching (Great British Bake Off actually) instead of trying to pull vague, blurry memories of the ten minutes or so that I actually remembered from the programme before passing out!

Ah, I don't actually think they're that 'little' really - what 'little' things have others noticed about quitting alcohol?

Feeling clean, inside and out. Even my sweat when I am running smells clean! :H

I'm only on day 2 but feel encouraged by you guys. Although I didn't sleep well last night, I guess it was because I didn't pass out, but still feel better because I didn't wake up still drunk or severely hungover feeling like death is a good alternative. Please keep posting. I need you guys.

Reeree in time your sleep will get better. Once we learn to just lie and fall asleep instead of pass out we actually can enjoy that quiet time alone with our thoughts!

              Nice idea, Mycall--

I am really enjoying being present in the moment-- not off in the future, rushing everything in my day so that I can get home to drink. I have so much more time!
I love knowing that no matter how late I get to bed, I can deal with tomorrow.

I love the simplicity in my head. MindPeace, I call it. I'm not clambering to find a way to drink, or recover from it, or planning for it, or all the processes that it takes to be a successful ALKIE. The whole thing was just chaotic and exhausting. It is a real blessing to have a simpler life. Things still happen, but I am not hindered by AL and all its entanglements. Byrdie

I enjoy not being tipsy/drunk , no more hiding bottles, no more unrest in the family ,no more secrets or lies. I am starting to enjoy the feeling of getting my life back, - the one that I lost when AL and me were best buddies. Rebuilding trust with husband ,and daughters -trying to be the wife /mother I should have been . Getting back to my crafts that I love. Getting rid of the awfull puffy face , etc , caused by the AL Basically I enjoy being as far away from the AL demon as I can .

                    Oh...this is a great post!!
The first thing that comes to mind is not waking up STILL DRUNK!! Trying to get my daughter ready for school and trying to look sober and walk a straight line out to the school bus waiting at our door. OR having drive somewhere in the morning and wondering if I got pulled I would probably get a DUI.
Not waking up feeling depressed, miserable and desperately trying to come up with an excuse as to why I can't make the staff meeting, keeping my daughter home from school because "SHE" was sick!!

So many other wonderful reasons to stay sober. Thank you for starting this thread. Just love it.

Going home at lunch time and doing a load of laundry, vacuuming and starting the dishwasher...as opposed to laying down trying to sneak in a nap because I'm so hungover.

Not having my daughter say to me "You're always sick"

                      Sleeping, not passing out.

                      Waking up, not coming to.
:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:

Actually feeling happy, joyful. Of course, also feeling sad, depressed, anxious, but at least feeling emotions rather than being numb.
