Anyone else experience this in early recovery? I've always been an avid reader but right now it seems i can only read nonfiction..anything that has a plot or characters to keep track of seems like a chore. I recently had to take a continuing education exam for work and even that seemed tough for the first time ever.

Yes, this is perfectly normal.
I don't know the science behind it all, but your brain connections are healing....the first 30 days or so things are bouncing around all over the place...but after that, they seem to find their way!! The pathways smooth out and soon you will feel on top of your game! Hang in there....you are healing!!!! Byrdie -

byrdie is absolutely right on with this tom,i usually just stick to gossip magazines,if i try to get into a book,seems like i read the same sentence over and overI have too much shit to do today and tomorrow to drink:sohappy:

Thx, Byrdie, I needed to hear that. Reading has always been a great escape for me, one of the things that held me together...one of the upsides i've found in sobriety is that for the first time in a long time I don't feel the need for distraction, I am comfortable in my own head, with my own thoughts and I never thought I would get to that place.Comment
