Eloise- the two ways I successfully fend off sugar cravings, especially at night, are 1. fruit and 2. L-Glutamine (1 scoop in water). Also adding a scoop of protein powder with the glutamine/water will help to feel full, and the glutamine really helps quiet/calm the craving. That, plus 1 piece of fruit for the sweetness/fiber, really does work!

Hey skull.. Just re reading your posts. I am not going to try the Stevia as I have a history of a seizure disorder. Natural sugar from fruit is going to have to be the route I take.
I noticed that now that I hardly eat refined sugar that fruit tastes sweater to me.
That is a bonus!
I take 1000 mg L gut throughtout the day and before bed but it doesnt do it. How much L Glut is there in a scoop?
You know if I eat a banana in the night I do not think that is so terrible, right?(AF since 17 May 2014) 2 years 5 months sober

I don't know how much there is in the L-glut scoop as brands vary- it should describe how much is in yours on the package. And yes, fruit at night is just fine- because if your body wants sugar, you're giving it some in the natural form- fructose from fruit. Eat it whole, to get the fiber (don't just have juice).
And yeah, one of the best things about being sugar free is how awesomely fantastic fruit tastes after a whole.

Um, I am feeling like I have slept deeper the past two nights and maybe a bit less anxious? I have been one of those 'night' eaters my entire life. It isn't like I eat a lot in the night, but my hungry belly wakes me and disturbs my sleep. I have also eliminated diet coke from my diet since I started to work. Mostly by accident, but I think that might make me less puffy too?
Anyhow, I have my pineapple and L-Glut ready for tonight. Tomorrow will be day 5, you said after a week it gets a little more routine and easier?
Thanks for the pineapple tip Skull!!(AF since 17 May 2014) 2 years 5 months sober

Sure thing, Eloise- I didn't actually say pineapple specifically, as I prefer other fruit, but whatever your fruit preference is, if it works, great! And also yeah, Diet soda is super harmful as well so I'm happy you've cut that out too. Glad you're feeling good and yes things should get easier and easier from here on it, though if you give in and indulge they will become hard again~!

Okay, so that is bizarre. Where did I come up with the pineapple? I thought I read it here in one of your posts? Doesn't matter. As a general rule I never eat it because I have a bad reaction to it when it is freshly cut.
It seems fine if I eat the precut pineapple in the produce section though, weird. Who knows?
Anyhow, I had another good night and that is all that counts. The fruits and veggies are pretty amazing in the Netherlands, by the way. They grow lots of it locally in greenhouses. I bought a tub of blueberries yesterday that were amazing.
I am trying to just have fresh nutritious foods hanging around so I eat that instead of other stuff.
Anyhow...
Eloise: day 6 ( I imagine you are feeling pretty energetic at day 16 Skull?)(AF since 17 May 2014) 2 years 5 months sober

Hehe, yep I never mentioned pineapple, though maybe someone else did? Doesn't matter- fruit of any kind (especially that yummy stuff you describe) and L-Glut are the way to go for sugar gravings! Good on you for keeping with it! How are you feeling?
Yep, I'm feeling 'over the hump' and pretty great. I have thoughts of indulging sometimes but as long as I eat healthy food first I can easily shoo away the cravings. Keeping lots of healthy food, kitchen well stocked, is crucial.
