    Sugar Free Roll Call

Whew, the last day or 3 has been like having withdrawals after going clean from a drug, seriously. Moody, edgy, tired, even a little shakey, in spite of getting more than adequate nutrition. Can't wait til I'm past these sugar withdrawals and in top form

      You're doing great SBL!

I thought the physical effects of getting off sugar and AL were very similar. And many of the benefits are similar, too, although AL of course is its own special case in many ways ! My diet is very similar to yours although I don't have access to the wild meats. Pretty tasty way to eat, isn't it?

NS, yes I feel that way too. Since alcohol is metabolized as sugar, it makes a lot of sense- there's definitely a strong link between the two. One can even make you crave the other.

As for your diet, where do you live? Could local farmer's markets etc. be the answer if you wanted to get that kind of meat? There are also many good farms that ship to you via online, let me know if you want a link or two.

          Sugar Free Roll Call

Hi - I'd like to join...Day 2 sugar free! It's been hard to get off the sugar. I usually live sugar free but went on like a 3 week total binge shortly after quitting AL. Anyway - Day 2 here we come!

There is high quality beef, pork, chicken, etc. in our local stores but no e.g. Bison (no Whole Foods, I'm afraid...). I would be interested in good online sources. Thanks!

Hmm well, this is all beef, I believe, (no bison) but this is who I'll be buying from soon...

Grassfed Organic Beef from Alderspring Ranch

I'm buying a chest freezer and going to buy an eighth or a quarter cow, to stock up on quality protein at a more efficient price.

Skullbaby - Thanks! As for natural food...we have friends that raise their own cattle..grass fed no hormones. Bought a bunch of hamburger from them recently. There really is no comparing that to what is in most grocery stores. It's so lean and flavorful. I just love it. It's worth the money, IMHO.

                      Sugar Free Roll Call

I want to join in on this roll call but I have been so bad with sugarconsumption of late I'm not sure I can do it. Question- al is black and white but sugar is in almost everything! Are you saying a sugar free days consists of no sugar in any form? So juice or fruit- are they ok? I think I can abstain from things that are obvious like cookies and other sweets. Or could we say we should strive for things that are 4 grams or less of sugar. Sorry to be so weird on this one! Maybe it will just vary by individual.

                        Sugar Free Roll Call

                        Hi, Sanchez

I'm not sure whether others agree but I posted my thoughts on this earlier:

It seems to me that AF and SF should be handled differently.

                        AF is AF. Period.

SF can be defined differently by different people and an occasional "treat" does not usually have the consequences of a drink.

For Free, it primarily means giving up desserts. For someone else, it might mean that as well as high glycemic index foods.

For me, it means not eating foods that raise my blood sugar out of the normal range and keep it there too long. So, my definition may be stricter than someone else wants or needs.

Anyway, my suggestion is that posting on the roll call means a successful day given the poster's definition of SF. For example, I would consider a day on which I ate a small piece of dark chocolate or perhaps a fig to be an SF day for me. It would not be one if I ate a bowl of ice cream or a plate of pasta because for my blood sugar, they have the same effect.

                              Skullbaby- Day 6

Allan- are there any substitutes that could work well for mints and bubble tea? I know there are some that are sweetened with stevea/xylitol instead of sugar. The reason I ask is because it's my understanding that even a tiny bit of sugar triggers cravings for more sugar, so one small treat can cause a bigger sugar binge later. It may be be virtually impossible to eliminate sugar 100% but I think we can get close.

EDIT- that reminds me, if anyone's interested- I get these dressings/marinades/sauces, they're sugarfree (and glutenfree) and taste just like the regular kinds. https://trinityhillfarms.com/store
