Yeah Skull, the choice was to either explain myself or stop eating lunch.
What a complete dummy for someone who is supposed to be a department head to behave in such a way. And at a school no less.
    Really embarrassing for him.

    I ate pizza tonight.
3 pieces. I should have stopped at 2.
No sugar thought! I ate fruit last night because I was lazy.
I had a little fight w/the hd tonight. I really do get a bit sick of being together every evening, talk about dull.
When I tell him what I think he feels hurt but he can say whatever rolls of his tongue and he is being honest.
    ugh. Oh well.

Try to shake it off, anger hurts no one but myself.

hey today is 2 weeks sugar free! The 2nd week is easier, just like quitting wine.
Let's see how i feel in another week!

Skull and NS- have you lost weight doing this?
I am maintaining and feel less puffy, as I said, but I kind of expected to at least loose a kilo or two? I know, it takes awhile.

      Hi, El

Sorry to hear you're kind of in a funk. So am I. Maybe part of it is the dreary season and lack of light - at least here. Some of it for me is stuff that I can't control or fix so I'm being extra vigilant about my diet and, of course, keeping my focus on not taking the easy way out of how I'm feeling by drinking. When I'm not starting from a high point anyway, the last thing I need is to eat or drink any crap that will make it worse!!

Have you tried any of the meditation or hypnosis apps? I've found them really useful when I truly need to escape from my busy brain one way or the other. Now that 'the other' is no longer an option, I'm glad I've become aware of these. MossRose started a thread that mentions some good ones.

I haven't eaten much sugar or sugar-producing carbs in several years and my weight is pretty stable at a normal level w/o much effort. Toward the end of my wino days, I was pretty puffy through the middle but that went away when I became AF. If your goal is weight loss, you might need to reduce the fruit and sugary carbs (e.g. bread), too. It just depends on what your goal is.

Well, don't let that anger get you. You're right, it hurts us worse than whoever we're aiming at. xx, NS

I dont dare reduce the fruit intake or carbs when I feel the need.
Staying balanced and sober is far more important.
Losing weight would be a nice bonus is all.

I dont know what my problem is? I should be happy really, things are going so much better than a year ago.
Maybe a bit more cardio exercise could help too? Since I started the office work I only workout on the week-ends, but do pilates once a day. It would be best to just remember to walk the dog one long walk per day!

I used the meditation cds in the past, NS, yes.
I think I am still having a hard time adjusting to the Netherlands.
I may have made a new friend who grew up in the same state as me and and has been through this adjustment 2x in the Netherlands. I am hoping talking to her may ease this burden a bit? When I talk to my husband he says I am just complaining.

And you have a point about eating right, I am not eating a balanced diet.
We still have not installed a kitchen in our new house. We have a hot plate since August.
I make no effort to cook since I started the 2nd job. I am too tired so my husband eats supermarket meals and I eat whatever - lots of grilled cheese sandwiches and salads.
I should focus on this, I find not cooking depressing and still feel like we are camping here.

All of this 'see you are not so perfect after all' is their insecurity, not ours.
You know there is a department head at my part-time job who has been criticising my healthy lunches. I finally had to tell him 'look I had skin cancer this summer, so it is important I get as much nutrition out of each meal as possible to help my body heal and fight off any further cancer cell that might be lurking about in my body. Does that help you to understand my meal selection?'
Done. Now he realizes he was being a dumb ass. Annoying I had to point it out to him and what bad manners!
LOVE this thread NS & Co
I had forgotten how much this stuff interests me.
I was losing heart with MWO and finding it hard to get motivation to post.
This is a great read & I hope to continue to read if you will have me ???

I too have that annoying person who criticizes what I eat & the greens I drink.
Every day - "oh you don't eat proper food". I do not go to the canteen where the food quality is suspect but choose to eat at my desk or in one of the community areas-where I will not have to explain my food to anyone.
This person is as she says herself ,is 50 lbs overweight, eats chocolate for lunch & criticizes my food choices ?:yikes1:

Eloise I deal with Netherlands a lot in my job.

                Hey Satz123!
Its lovely to have you read and post here, great!

I do find it so strange why some people feel the need to critique what people are eating?
The man in my office who I mentioned I now understand does not have his act together at all on a variety of levels. After yesterday I decided I now pity him.

What is your work connection with the Netherlands?

One thing I can say is the fruits and veggies are pretty great here!
And I am feeling better after my workout, thankfully.

Nice to see you, Satz! I miss reading your posts on the Army thread but with the time difference, it is so hard to keep up or participate. I much prefer to eat alone and avoid the questions or criticism. I also eat at atypical times (other than dinner).

El, I cook almost every night so that hot plate scenario would be really tough. It's pretty hard to get all you need from food when you're eating the same things all the time. Some of our grocery stores have amazing, high-quality food (not just salad) bars. Do you have anything like that available? I hope you can get your kitchen fixed soon!

I've been watching some interesting videos from a conference held last August in Melbourne: http://lowcarbdownunder.com.au/videos/. Maybe next year I should attend and visit Ava and Mr. G.!

                      Hm, okay.... Interesting!
NS- we have to bite the bullet and have a new kitchen installed. Yes, my husband could do it but lets just say I think it is unwise. He is under a lot of pressure ( no job, then gets one and is paid ridiculously low), a mother with Alzheimers, a whacky sister... I just cannot put another task on his list. I haven't a clue how to tackle this problem so I am leaving it for now.
The market has premade meals but I do not find them healthy.
My hd found a company last week that delivers ingredients & menus for what to make. The first box arrived today, lets see! Could work?

Yeah, NS, the hot plate set up sucks with a capital S.
Sometimes life just isn't easy. On the one hand my husband can be great, and on the other he holds on tight to those bachelor habits.
In his defense we have spent a lot of money since we arrived and not earned much. This is starting to balance out a bit, so I feel I want to wait and get a kitchen I will really like for years to come. Instead of a cheap make shift Ikea kitchen that I will hate.
Once my part-time job is done I will start to see if I can find someone to either install a premade kitchen or build one from scratch. We have to install a wood floor 1st, so this all means a big mess and more stress. Neither of us is up to it right now.

Any insights on the idea of buying a convected oven (or something similar) that we could install later in a permanent kitchen? I guess the big challenge here is the language and my inexperience with kitchens.
I do not like microwaves (no valid reason behind this one though).
I also do not want to buy appliances and throw them away in 6 months when we install a kitchen!

I do have a slow cooker and make use of it for soups and lasagna (now that I am shifting away from the carbs the lasagnas aren't happening).

I haven't made this El, but it sounds good: http://www.mynaturalfamily.com/recip...k-pot-lasagna/. There are all sorts of recipes available online for low carb slow cooker recipes.

Congrats on your 17 SF days!
