I've pretty much just given up "sweet" (other than what comes in e.g. fruit and sweet potatoes) so I don't use alternative sweeteners but that would be one approach you could try. You could probably google some recipes. Or, if the cookies are only for the kids, you might as well just make regular cookies.

The cookies are just for the kids.
They get all nutso on me if too much sugar in their snack.
The cupcakes without frosting is fine, but looking for at least a low sugar recipe or two for cookies.
Having trouble motivating myself just now to get to work. I am never like this, maybe its the overzealous skin care treatment I am doing? Gotta jump start myself somehow.(AF since 17 May 2014) 2 years 5 months sober

When my daughter bakes, she uses almond flour-based recipes and generally uses raw honey in reduced amounts as a sweetener. The problem is, I'm not sure kids (who are used to really sweet stuff) would like them. How about apple slices and nut butter? Or celery and cream cheese?
I'm unmotivated too - I'm thinking post-holiday let down. I knew the adrenaline rush would end (thank goodness!) but now I need some sort of kick into gear (I didn't even leave the house yesterday!).
I hope your face is recovering from the treatments you had. xx-NS

I can remain in this house for weeks on end if I decide.
Food & groceries are on a delivery schedule. Thank god we have dogs!
I guess everyone feels like this during the post holiday week.
Thanks for the almond flour tip NS.
I generally reduce the sugar in my cookies, not nearly as sweat as the store bought cookies.
As I said too much sugar makes the kids crazy!(AF since 17 May 2014) 2 years 5 months sober

I've followed a low sugar diet for years, and have always believed that its the right thing for my body. Two recent changes, however, have just kicked things to another level! I no longer drink wine (or other alcohol) and surprise (!) that is making me feel tremendous, but also I am following The Whole30 protocol, and finally feel like I found the way of eating that my body responds to the most positively.
The core foods for the diet are vegetables, some fruit and meat along with healthy fats like coconut and olive oil.
The biggest change for me, I think, is that it doesn't allow sweetners of any kind, including artificial sweeteners. I don't think there's been a day since I drank my first Tabs and Frescas at eight years old that I haven't had some kind of artificial sweetener, starting with saccharine and most recently Stevia.
That was a hard habit to break but ultimately I'm thinking it's the best thing I could've done because now I am loving the natural sweetness of fruits and even vegetables like sweet potatoes. I had a little bit of pineapple last night and it was almost so sweet that I couldn't stand it.
Anyway just thought I'd share this because I'm someone who has never been able to just eat naturally. In my 20's and 30's I struggled with bulimia, and after that with alcoholism. This is really the first time in my life that I eat as much as I want and satisfy my hunger naturally. No cravings. Just good healthy food and I'm loving it! After searching and searching for years for the right way to eat I finally feel like my body is saying "Well it sure took you long enough to figure it out, but this is it!"Last edited by Kailey; January 7, 2015, 08:51 AM.You had the power all along, my dear.

Hey, Kailey
I agree that the Whole 30 is excellent -- and delicious! Artificial sweeteners generally give me a stomachache and nutratsweet gave me bumps all over my mouth and tongue so I've never consumed them too much but I've read that they keep the desire for 'sweet' alive. To get to the point you're at that a pineapple tastes super-sweet, you've got to get rid of all the non-natural sources of that taste. It's kind of nice to feel like fruit is a decadent treat, isn't it?
The whole 30 is a great approach to stabilize blood sugar and it sure seems that for some of us, that is one of the main keys to reducing or eliminating alcohol (and sugar/carb) cravings. I suspect it is important for more people than realize it but it is hard to convince people who are already overwhelmed by the struggle to add in another change - even though that might make the initial struggle easier.
You're doing so well with this SF lifestyle, El - Congratulations!!

Hi Everyone! Hope you don't mind if I join in here. I read back a bit and it seems like not one sugar free person regrets it. I am feeling sluggish and tired - I know I need a diet change.
I have loved the fact that I can eat whatever, whenever I want and have still lost weight being AF! I have enjoyed ordering dessert - knowing that it won't add weight. Apparently, my snack and dessert indulgences haven't been as high a caloric intake as alcohol was, so I maintain a lesser weight. The problem is that I feel like yuck. I REALLY want my fitness and strength back. I MUST find time to exercises more (sweat AND strength training) - and I think it's time to fuel my body with higher quality food. I've done it before and felt great - I just dread the first few days (just like alcohol!! What parallels!).
So I would like to post here. If I avoid junk grains and sugar - the rest seems to fall in place for me (because then I crave veggies, fat and protein). SO, thanks for being here! I feel like this is the missing link in my energy and fitness quest - so glad I can be accountable for it!
NS, Halloween has long bothered me and felt like an abuse from the candy industry playing on sugar addiction... problem is that I always take my kids halloween candy away and hide it, but then eat it myself!Kensho
Done. Moving on to life.
