    Tiredness

I just feel shattered tired most of the time. Sleep is ok few weird vivid dreams and I fell out of bed the other night now that's a first. Didn't even do that when drunk. I'm off alcohol 49 days going to the gym I'm just waking up tired and seem to have very little energy. Does this last? Is it typical?

SueSue. I have been bone tired too. When I was drinking I would be passed out by 9. Now I'm up at midnight most nights and up by 5 am during the work week. B6 helps though. I'm going to work on my sleep starting this week. Let me know what works for you

        Hi Suesue
Try taking B vitamins. I take b12 and I think it helps. I too have been more tired than I would have thought especially since ridding our bodies of a depressant.
Exercise will help as well if possible.

I was totally wiped out for weeks and weeks, I took all sorts of vitamins especially the B ones (which I am going to start again as the tiredness has come back).,you find when you've been off it for while you actually sleep and don't pass out. My excuse is I was unconscious for years and didn't sleep so I'm catching up on it now

            Spiderwoman,
Interesting point about the sleep! It is never restorative with alcohol, never really healing.I think without alcohol the body has to learn to sleep all over again. I would pass out by about one or two am then wake up wide awake going through all sorts of horrors at 3 or 4am, 5 am if I was lucky. After that I would not be able to get back to sleep! Would be wide awake.

Sleep for me now is going to be one of the greatest gifts.

Yes loving the sleep. I also think my mind is going through so much stuff processing making up for all the time I was in a haze. Now that I think of it I'm actually more mentally tired than physically tired. The aul brain doesn't know what's hit it. I also find myself muddling up words inverting words when I talk. This is also a sign of brain tiredness. Guess we gotta be patient and kind to our bodies and minds as we've been hard on them for so long. I'm taking a vit b now

Ha Ha! I thought it was just me! I posted a couple of weeks ago that I love sleep and can't seem to get enough of it. Like you I have mad dreams. I wake twice per night for the loo and a drink of water. But in between zzzzzzzz like a dead dog as they say around these parts. I use it now as an excuse to hit the sack early when normally it would be time to hit the bottle. I am alternating between one night being able to read for half an hour before sleep hits, other nights I can't even focus i am so tired so it's on with the headphones and some chill out tunes. More often than not I wake up with the headphones still on! Like you say, our bodies must be catching up.

31 days in and still feeling grateful to have the chance to enjoy life once again:H

I've been using valerian root to help with sleep. Seems to work but I have to warn anyone that may want to try it. It really smells bad! hold your nose and drink lots of water.

Haha TJ - I tried valerian root tea once (when I was still drinking al) and the gal at the health food store recommended the one with mint because the straight valerian root would be so awful tasting. Even the one with mint was awful, but I managed to get it down with some stevia added. Had to put the box of tea in a plastic bag in the cupboard for fear it would infuse everything I had in the cupboard with its awful odor! Maybe the fridge would have been better.

Anyway - it did help me sleep, but it also gave me wild, vivid dreams bordering on nightmares. Don't know if you experienced that. Also found a combo OTC sleep pill that combines valerian root, lavender, chamomile and the stuff that's in turkey - can never remember the name but it's why you get sleepy after eating turkey dinner. Triptopan (sp) something like that. I'll have to go to the drugstore to see if I can find it again if anyone's interested in the brand/product name.
