Hi Gardener! I am still trying for my first 30 days, so you've done something I really admire. One thing that's nice about the people on this thread is that we all know we want to be AF. We are past trying to moderate, and don't romanticize alcohol too much any more. And even so, we struggle. I really think, one by one, we are going to break free and stay that way!

I'm in my mid-fifties, by the way. And love to garden, and used to love my wine. ( I just saw a beautiful bush of snow berries today and started thinking about where I could fit one in the garden)

I am in late 50's and been on and off the roller coaster for many years. I have finally strung some serious days together and am very proud of that...the support here was/is HUGE!

Hi NS, I have been reading and gleaning pearls of wisdom from your posts. I remember my start here well, and it was wine, gardening and cooking. There are alot of women here in this age group.

Glad to feel ready to begin again and hope to see some familiars as well as meet all the new peeps. I too wonder about some of the people that have drifted away as well. A fresh start is just what I need. See ya around NS.

Early to bed for me. Done with day 3. Sad and overwhelmed but its getting better, al would/did only make it worse. Didnt make it to an aa meeting tonight, its just so had to walk in that door alone.

S.L. I am so sorry about the rough time you are having with your ex. I know how this whole situation has caused so much pain for you. I will be so happy when there is closure. Just remember- you are taking the high road. I admire your courage and strength.

I think it was N.S. who mentioned that this thread is one that stays "on topic". I noticed that too and like that very much. I think day by day, we are modeling for each other the way to stand up to this addiction. We may not triumph every day, but we keep heading in the right direction and striving to overcome. I have said before, "We CAN do it"! With this strong group, I know We WILL do it. We HAVE to do it, ladies.

I am 54 years old and also have 4 daughters (aged 17-26). I wish I had quit drinking when they were too young to understand. Good for you, 4thekids for getting on with it while yours are young.

I can't say that I am a gardener, but that may be a good hobby to take up. I am looking for some new ways to fill my time.

I am just so happy to have all the support offered here and for the example you are all setting for me. Keep up the great work!

Today I am going to 1. Not drink. 2. Achieve a goal for the day from my list. 3. Follow the inspiration from this quote, "Change your thoughts, and change your world", Norman Vincent Peale.

Hi Everyone,

I'm finally on day one. I found it really difficult to get started. But it feels great to be on my way!

I'm 55 with one daughter and three grandchildren. I work full-time in a medical clinic. My drinking has gotten out of control over the last few years. It's pitiful how much damage has been done to my relationships, health and self-esteem.

I watched part of a movie last night before going to bed. The mother of a young boy was alcoholic. As I watched, I was aware of how other people must see me. They must feel frustration and helplessness. It made me sad.

Anyway, I enjoy the Fresh Start!! thread. Thank you for letting me join in.

I've tried to quit lots of times. But maybe this will be the time that sticks. It's SO easy to start drinking again. My alcoholic brain plays tricks on me.

Life as an alcoholic looks very different from the inside. Drinking to excess feels normal. But from the outside, to someone looking in, my drinking looks pathetic.

I need to keep it simple: Don't drink.

I'm not always good at keeping things simple?

Welcome Katty! I'm on day 2 (again!!). It is so easy to slip back. I'm not good at keeping things simple either, but drinking definitely makes everything more complicated.
