Just Starting Out...for the thousandth time

I'm looking into a book entitled, Get Sober, Stay Sober. by Cynthia Perkins. Has anyone read this? I posted in the "What we're reading section." I'm looking for alternative philosophies to the AA model. I went that route for 6 months three years ago, and found I wasn't comfortable with their methods. Thanks!

Omg it's weird how this strong alcohol is- I was just thinking "oh, one little harmless glass of wine.... Lovely ... "

              J-vo & Ginger,

I can really relate to your posts. I'm also a repeat newbie, today embarking on day one. Ginger, like you I appear organized and together. I have a successful career and manage house & kids (school, sports & all of the other activities primarily by myself since my husband works a lot). I know the toll this is taking on my body, I'm sick of feeling bad when I get up in the morning and I'm working on my plan to kick this once and for all!

Thank you for posting! Have a great day!

Just Starting Out...for the thousandth time

hey guys- i think this is a good thread for me. i have tried many times to quite as well with some success- not to discount my efforts BUT i end up back where i was if not worse. now i am living in a new country and really it doesn't matter too much what i do as i do not have the structure of work. that does help.
                hah. looking forward.
today is day 7- but it's not over yet so I won't get ahead of myself.

                    Eloise,
You Can! And since you're not working now, how about typing out a "schedule" for yourself? Write specific times on the schedule with healthy activities, to do's, errands, exercise. I know I do my best when I have a schedule. I fall apart in the summer when I don't work. This summer, there will be a schedule on my refrigerator and I will follow it!

Cocoflo, we're all repeaties! You can do this. Stick close to the boards. I usually go back to the toolbox for a refresher course.

Today is Halloween. The kids at school were a bit nuttier than usual. Hehe. They're always nutty, but on Halloween, dressed up, and they have a three-day weekend, well, let's just say, don't know how much learning took place today.

Tonight from 6-8 the little kids will be around to get their candy. I usually have the company of several drinks on this night, sitting outside while passing out the candy. That's not the case this year, and hopefully all future Halloweens. But I'm not thinking too far into future, as it works best if I do it ODAT.

Going to visit Dad tomorrow across state. He's in a rehab facility, as he broke his ankle and tore quads from accident. Slipped down the hill going to my nephews football game. Had flip flops on and slid and fell. He had surgery, now is wearing a cast from groin to toe. He has about 3 more weeks in this cast, then a brace. So I'm looking forward to spending the weekend with my two sisters and mom. There will be drinking, but not for me. I will be strong. And I'll check in! Have a good Halloween all!

Just Starting Out...for the thousandth time

Congrats on day 11 j-vo & appreciate your input.
I put a schedule for myself in September, which has helped to get me back on the wagon.
I have made it through day 7!

Just a comment but I think flip flops should be outlawed.
I won't get into it but they have caused a serious problem with my feet.
                        My own fault, I know.
Anyhow let's focus on the positive- one more day successful day without alcohol.

                          Eloise,
Congrats on day 7!! And glad you got that schedule together. I know it helps me.

Speaking of flip flops, i don't know if this caused it, but I have planters faschitis. I've been getting treated for this at the chiropractor. He healed it before. But it's painful!
