    On My Way

This is my 1ST day not drinking and on the program. I've spent 30 yrs drinking and I've had enough... I found this site about 3 weeks ago and have enjoyed listening to everyone give advice and support. I received the book, cd's and supplements yesterday and started today. I have tried to quit many times before but failed. It seems different this time. Never before did I have the supplements, cd's, or a website like this.
My story is probably similar to others; My Dad was an alcoholic ( he committed suicide 26 yrs ago), I joined the Navy at age 19 and became a Naval Aircrewman and spent the next 20yrs in the Navy flying and drinking. I retired from the Navy and am now a Real Estate Agent ( a lot of heavy drinkers in this field also). I always seemed to have a handle on my drinking until about 1-2 yrs ago. It now controls me instead and I'm sick of it. I'm so happy to be on this program. Today has sucked. I'm just sticking to the program (no Meds though) and can't wait until the physical cravings go away.
Just wanted to introduce myself and let everyone know that I'm onboard!:new:

    Welcome aboard,Chief!

Your message is almost identical to the first one I posted last week: drinking a long time, looking at the site and then taking the plunge. I'm not doing the meds eithe, I just don't fancy being zombied etc, but I am on the supps. I have found the support on the site amazing: I have been AF now for 7 days and today was the first time I was feeling really shitty so I posted telling everyone how I felt and the replies I received inspired and humbled me.
I know you'll get the same welcome as I did.

All the best and hopefully I'll see you around the boards!

        GO CHIEF

You can do it, what ever it takes do it......visualisation is working for me, when feeling good about your decision make a really tight fist and push the strength into your whole body and use that when the times are tough (the big boy Anthony Robbins taught me that years ago and have not forgotten it just forgot to use it or chose not to) and congratulation yourself in the morning with no hangover and remember how good that feels too.

Hope it helps that is what I'm doing !!!!!!! only day 3 for me (5 days but 1 glass of wine at dinner so don't really count 5 although I do want to, know what I mean). I'm shooting for 30 days AF.

Both my parents are alcoholics so understand what it is like. YOU CAN DO IT.

        stay strong, Sickofit

          on day 2

Today I woke up with no hangover!! I listened to the 1st cd last night when i went to bed but I'm not sure it did anything. I was totally awake while listening and then turned it off when it was done. Yesterday was a roller coaster of thoughts and emotions. One minute I was ready to jump out of my skin and the next I felt like I was perfectly in tune with the MWO program. I'm taking the supps, kudzu, & l- glutamine. I am having some pretty bad Craving/panic episodes but they seem to be shortlived. I don't have much of an appetite but that may be normal. Thanks for the feedback, just wanted to check in on day 2...

Hi Chief, Congrats on day 1! I think the CDs take a little time in terms of your brain getting used to them. Someone muttering in your ear in the dark when you are asleep can be a little annoying! Keep taking the supps, as apparently they can take a little time to build up in your system. Glad to see you back on the site. Keep us informed of your progress and if you need advice or support or both this is the place to be.

              Hi Chief :welcome:

This journey will never be easy, but will be soooooo rewarding! Think of yourself as rafting down the Amazon or something. It's a tough trip, but boy, does it feel good to do it.

Obviously you are on the right path and have taken the best first step by coming here. You are not alone. Keep posting and keep up that wonderful strength that you have! You will do this - I am sure of it.
Rest in Peace, Bear. We miss you.

Thank you cindi and Chief!! It is amazing to read some of the "old-timers" stories and see how far they have come. I have looked at several to try to inspire myself with those who've struggled, fallen, come back. thanks again!!

Woke up in the middle of the night, about a half hour ago. Feeling grumpy. Decided to get online. This was the first thread I read.

Thank you Cindi for bringing Chief's story to the attention of us newbies.

Thank you, Chief, for your service and inspiration. :h :h

                            Thanks Cindi and Chief

Its people like you who keep me coming back to this site. I too would have joined around April 2006 and while I have had lots of AF time, I'm still not completely AF but I am working on it. On Day 9 this time and it does get easier. This is the easiest start to a 30 day stint that I have had so far and I have done about 4 at this stage. I intend to keep at it until I control the beast and not the other way around.
