I'm in too. Second day for my, its nearly 6pm in the UK, my worst time - tea time when I usually have my glass to hand while doing the tea. Yesterday, my first day was good but the sun is shining here in England and my hubby is home from a 2day conference shattered and is sitting on the patio with a glass of white - its killing me. Started the vits and supplements yesterday, not sure whether to order the cds yet, coming on here is a big big help. Count me in guys, I need all the help I can get. Janice

Hi Everyone, I am a little confused. Are people going to try and post daily on this thread? But then I see that you've started another thread today about 30 days AF. Not sure which one to stick too. But anyways I joined in February so I've been around a few months but still feel very much like a"newbie" . I very very much want and need to get myself AF. Getting through 30 days has been a challenge. But- I am going to begin again today May 1st and would love to post daily and keep in touch with others with the same, or similar, goals. I really think we could help each other. Hope everyone is having a happy May Day!

May Day - my first day, trying for 30 AF. I can't remember the last time I've made it a week. But I feel more positive about it now, thanks to you all.

I am going to make a list of all the benefits of being alcohol free. Such as I'll feel better, I'll have energy to exercise, I'll lose weight, I'll be free from the constant self-berating, I'll save money ... etc. I'll carry this list with me always and when I feel like I'm going to lose my resolve, I'll read it. And I think maybe keeping a daily journal so I can look back and remember how well I'm doing, or the struggles.

I don't have the book yet, no supps yet, nothing. Just this forum. I do have another supplement at home used for recovering, will start that.

          Happy May Day all!

            Hey Newbies!

I was a "newbie" last year and I just wanted you to know there is hope.
It may not happen overnight, but don't ever give up!

I like the idea of posting here everyday. Maybe someone can start the thread here with the day and date to get it started .
That way it will not be a super long thread and easier to keep up with everybody.

This is done down in Monthly abs and monthly mods threads.
I do like the idea of "newbies" sticking together as some of us "oldies" are on a different path now and some of you will be more comfortable in your own group.. You are always welcome anywhere on this board....we've all been where you are today.
I post alot in 'What we believe" and on other threads as well. Your input is important everywhere.
Soon after I came on here, RJ came up with the idea of the different threads to meet our needs.
If you want to move it down, she is always helpful. Just PM her and she will answer soon...I promise!
I'm livin proof that this can work.

            I love you all.

Hi Everyone, I think Southern Belle's idea of posting a new thread each day with the date is a great idea. That way everyone can check in daily and the thread won't get so long. But you can still look back over the previous days threads. I like the way they do that in Monthly Abs. This could be more for "newbies" only anyone could join in if they want. What do people think? OK, DAY 1 for me today. I've started takeing 50 mg of Topa today and I think it will be easy now to stop. I feel excited and ready. I was drinking beer last night and didn't enjoy it at all. I'm going sober for the month of May.

Sounds good to me. I would be happy to do it, but I am in France and I think that most of you are in the US, so my day would start a lot later/earlier than yours. Does anyone from the US want to volunteer to start the day off, perhaps someone who can long on first thing from work would be a good idea. Ten o'clock here, nearly at the end of day 6, had a bad night tonight was going through some of my mothers clothes, she dies at Christmas and left me some belongings which I just recently picked up, they still had her smell and I would have given anything for just one more cuddle. She was also my drinking buddie, I really wanted to have a glass of wine with her, but I know she would be really proud of me for stopping, so I haven't I took another L-glutamate which staved off the cravings a bit and carried on going through her things, now it's nearly bedtime. Another day nearly over. Tomorrow will be one week!!

I will be happy to start the day from the US. I'm Pacific time.
I'll start a thread by 9am each morning.

                      Does that work?

                      Congratulations to us all!!

                        Welcome to all!

                        Hi aduggan et al,

great to see you all here and will be cheering from the sidelines! I don't want to suggest I have any answers or remedies, but having struggled through the first 2 months of being AF I just wanted to share a couple of things that I've found helped me over the initial stages - use or lose as they say - everyone's journey is different and it's finding what works for you...
-As someone mentioned, a journal is a good record of your journey - you can mark down triggers when you start to recognise them, feelings (both high and low) to use as amunition when the going gets tough, just a reminder of how far you've come, a record of any excercise program if you choose to follow one, etc.
-Starting a 'things to do now I don't drink' list helped give me motivation and direction - it continues to get longer day by day!
-checking in here each day - this buddy thread is a brilliant idea
-thinking 'beyond' the alcohol - instead of 'I don't want to drink' (ie focus on the alcohol) focus on what you do want (ie focus on something positive)
                        - be armed for any social situations - have your story ready as to why you're not drinking - it will stop you being caught unawares by awkward questions.

No magic answers and others have a far greater variety of strategies/tools they've used but just wanted to share some things that I found helped...

BTW aduggan, I also live in France - there seem to be a couple of us. Good luck with the first guests! Look forward to hearing how it goes...

                        Good luck to all

                          Hi all newbies,

I'd like to join I'm on day 4 (nearly over!!!) Aduggan you could start the Daily thread as Europe is ahead of the States by at least 5 hours, or if there are any newbies in the southern hemisphere that would be even better.

Arial, I love your suggestions. Especially that they are all focused on the positive as you say... not about what I'm not going to be doing, but what I am going to be doing.

I go home from work tonight in about 3 hours... already I hear my brain making up reasons to start AF tomorrow, not tonight, because it's easier when my daughter is home and tonight she is with her dad, because my sweetheart and I were planning a nice night of romance tonight and it will be easier if I get a buzz, because i want to enjoy one more evening not 'craving'...

But damn, how many many many times have I said - "Tomorrow, I'll quit tomorrow"

                              Hi Imatree,

No time will be 'easier' despite what we say - I waited for that easier day for 15 years and it never came - my excuses were always more persuasive. Who knows - your evening of romance sober could be the start of something new - and I'll guarantee you'll wake up in the morning with a big smile on your face! Why wait? - why put it off ?- 'just do it' as they say!

                              Have a great evening
