    Rock bottom, yet again...

Gargykath, sad about the GP's. I am sure there are TONS here too.

In regards to your smoking thing - I would put one out and re-light right away. Scary the thought of what I have done to my lungs etc!

I, too was STARVED the day after drinking. I also binge ate. And I craved greasy foods like fries etc. I am so amazed I am not a zillion pounds from the alcohol and the bad foods.

I would suggest, as you are doing, getting a lot of good foods into you. Salads - love them! I eat them religiously! I have always loved vegetables, so it wasn't a problem to get them back into my diet. Also, what I found helped my keep my cravings down was eating a lot of protien. Like fish, turkey, chicken. I eat a lot of tuna (although they are harping about Mercury levels - but oh well LOL!). Eat a lot of whole grain breads too. Keeping your blood sugar stable is a big help in kicking the alcohol. Eat small portions - often.

I LOVE cats. This one kind of reminds me of my beloved baby who I had to put down a year ago. She was my bestest friend! Lots of personality and loved me no matter what even when I was a drunken mess LOL!

Glad to see you here. Keep on posting and reading. You will gain a lot here! Not to mention you will end up with a bunch of friends who are understanding, nut-bars!

Thanks for the dietary advice am tucking in now to massive plate of salad with seeds, dark salad leaves, potatoes, salmon & anchoivies and egg and my fav sugar snap peas.

I love fast food in North America much better than stuff we have here - I went to Jack in the Box best curly fries ever and dont even get me started on the wonders of Del Taco.

Have some choccys as well for after hehe.

And watching fav sitcoms on telly !

Then am going for nice posh bath with posh bathbomb.

My cat is huge and lovely boy very cuddly. We had an argument earlier as when I was drunk I tidied up the remote control so thought he had hidden it.

The big test is going to be in three - four days once hangover has gone and I get bored..... oh well at least have found this site.

Funny... the talk about drinking doctors. I had a dream last night that I heard that my doctor died suddenly from alcoholism. I'm having a lot of fears about dying from my drinking, and smoking. I am sure I'll be able to let the smokes go rather easily once I get totally sober.
Thanks for all the encouragement everyone. Nice to meet you Gargy.
Now, back to my hangover-laden day.... sitting at my desk trying to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing while I have a ton of work to do! I think I will appreciate the clear mind of sobriety more than anything. Oh, and the weight loss (instantly cutting out one to two thousand calories a day, without the beer and wine).
              Hugs,

Kali, I had a fellow friend - binge drinker who tried the antibuse a few years back. She was at her rock bottom so her GP prescribed her some. I am not sure if it helps with cravings physically but mentally it does. If you take any alcohol when taking this it will make you EXTREMELY ILL. You might want to inquire with your GP - he/she will be able to let you know what it does exactly. Or try looking on the internet as I am sure there is a wealth of information about it as well.

                      Hiya

imatree - I totally sympathise - I am a legal person and once turned up to court still pissed from night before am amazed I got away with that. The worst thing is trying not to appear hungover / still pissed from night before.Very hard sometimes. Even making a coffee is a real test as I dont want to appear wobbly or uncoordinated.

Sometimes I manage to get away to do some filing but is hard to get through.

What time did you get to bed then ? I went to bed at 4am following a very unwise hunt for more beer not a good idea in South London ! Didnt get to sleep till 5.

Can you not get out with your job on some errands or visits or anything ???? The other thing I do sometimes for a skive is walk around with a file and find somewhere to hide for a while.

My thoughts are with you mate !:flower:

does anyone get these withdrawel symptoms

hi everyone just been reading the last few posts and wondered if anyone feels that their brain is so alive and jumpy after af2days. As I dont drink everyday I always find my thoughts are so fast and furious on 3rd or 4th af day, its as if someone has plugged my brain into a live socket, i then start to have horrible and numerous dreams. someone at aa once said the goodnews when you stop drinking is that your feelings come back the bad news is your feelings come back, maybe thats what it is and my brain is waking up!

                            Kali --

About antabuse... My husband is a recovered alcoholic (who woulda thunk I'd become one 7 years later). He had two DUIs, and in the legal aftermath, alcohol counseling was required, and I remember at one point his telling me he had been ordered to take that, or maybe given it by a counselor. Dunno. Anyway, he says if you take it, and then drink alcohol you get violently sick to your stomach, and it is an extremely unpleasant experience.
That's the extent of my knowledge on it.

                              Garden Girl--

It's been 3 AF days for me, and I feel the same way. Brain feels alive and jumpy. But in a good way. I like it. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if this were slightly a psychosomatic phenomenon, as when I was drinking, I was always worried about my brain being hurt and "dumbed down", if you will.

I think everything you're describing is a good thing. No matter what, you're better off handling any situation sober, versus drunk.

About the dreams, oh yeah, I've had some bizarre and vivid ones these past few nights. I hope they don't bother you too much. They don't bother me. My understanding is that vivid dreams are a sign of deep, REM, good quality sleep. Whenever I'd wake up in the morning after a night of heavy drinking, I wouldn't recall having any dreams at all. Just black. I finally am having dreams again! Dreams are a good indicator.

                              That's my two cents.

garden girl - one of the hardest things about quitting drinking is dealing with all of the emotions we used alcohol to suppress. I had times where I just cried and cried, and felt like complete garbage when the memories came flooding back. This will pass.

Part of healing is dealing with it all. You can't change anything, but you certainly can deal with it and move on.

Feeling wired is perfectly normal. When I first quit I had a lot of restless energy which turned into complete boredom. This was a HUGE trigger for my cravings. I wanted the alcohol to take the restlessness/boredom away. You will have to find other things to do to expend this energy. It is tough but you can do it.
