Can we get a weight loss tread started up in here?!

Oh DG - your profile stats are the same as mine!!!! No kids, one cat (the other one left us a few months ago) and a DH who has the same problem.. Adding one more - we are both in a COLD climate! We are starting a "winter weather advisory event" here.. Can I add one more KILL ME NOW?

DipGal, interesting you bring up IF. I practice Fast-5 (most days) and am on a FB website where many talk of going from 5:2 to F-5. Most say they lose wt with 5:2, then plateau as they eat too much on their feeding days, switch to F-5, start losing again & find it easier. F-5 means fast for 19 hrs, eat during a 5 hour window. You may find the 5:2 works just fine for you.

Good luck everyone. I would join you, but I'm a modder so think I better stick to the mods thread where I have started a wt loss check-in.

Hi To My Health, no reason you can't be in two healthy eating threads! Yes, I am familiar with Fast 5.. but am restarting 5:2 and have a lot to lose.. and will be paying attention to my normal day calories now that the holiday season is coming to an end and I am cutting down/eliminating AL. I do kind of a 16:8 when I am in the groove. Back in the groove soon! Good luck to you in all of your goals!!

I'm checking in. No weight loss yet ;-) but according to DrinkAware, I'm down 4208 calories compared to last week if I don't drink today. I'm going to work out now.

Can we get a weight loss tread started up in here?!

Hi All - Hope it's okay if I add my two cents - I'm in the same spot as most of you - I need to quit drinking AND lose weight. One thing I learned last year when I did stop drinking for 6 months was that the weight comes off so much faster when you are AF. The reason is that your body views alcohol as poison - it can't store it so it has to metabolize it right away. That means any food you eat gets put "on the back burner" until your body has dealt with getting the alcohol out of your system. This means, of course, that the food is not getting metabolized and thus is stored as fat. And, if you're like me, you often eat "junk" after your binge - it's late - and you end up sleeping, not exercising, making the whole situation that much worse! So, you may end up re-thinking your plan to moderate when you see how much more quickly the weight comes off during your AF period. Please know that I'm not making a judgment call regarding moderation - just sharing what I've learned about the difficulty of losing weight while still drinking. Take care all and Happy New Year!

I appreciate your advice Caper! I am sure you are right. Of course, it will all be an experiment. I just know with no or less alcohol to cloud my judgment I'll make better choices and have better control. I have A LOT to lose, so it will take me some time before I hit a stall. I'm doing the 5:2 Intermittent Fasting plan.

Can we get a weight loss tread started up in here?!

Happily I woke up with some enthusiasm to restart my diet program. I made today a "fast" day on my 5:2 Fast diet program. Doing good so far! Sat. and Sun. I can eat normally - not drinking will help with less calories and no need to binge!

                          I wanna join!

I lost 20 lbs before I broke my foot in June...thankfully I was able to keep (most of) it off. But I was not at my goal. I have about 20 more to go. I started my eat healthy/exercise routine last weekend and I am down 3lbs. Actually I think I have 22 more to go now that I think about it...see, the first step is to stop being in denial :H
:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:

AClassic - I didn't spot it, either! Just shows how efficient our brains are! I'd love to join here.

DipGal, like you I have around 100 pounds to lose. Yo-yo dieted all my adult life, and to my surprise the weight didn't start falling off me once I gave up alcohol (six weeks AF, yay!). I'm not a chocoholic either but I do love cheese and I think that's why my waistbands tell me I've put on another few inches over the festive season.

I've been on a health kick since November when I gave up alcohol but it's all gone haywire over Christmas so I'm stocking up the larder this weekend with decent food, chucking out the last of the leftovers and baddies and ready to start afresh on Monday.

Interesting that several of us on this thread are already into intermittent fasting. I know there are many ways of doing it - I don't lose on 5:2 even when I'm careful on the calories so I'm fasting most days and eat during an 8 hour window. It suits me and I was seeing improvements. But it's my health I need to regain, as much as the weight I need to lose. I'm hoping they will go hand in hand. I'm disabled in as much as joints dislocate all the time, so I cannot do gym work or any kind of repetitive movements including swimming, (it's not the intensity, it's the repetitive movement of a particular muscle) and a 2 mile walk is out of the question so I just do what I can, when I can. Gardening is perfect, and I love it; not talking about just pulling weeds out but some full on remodelling and fairly heavy stuff that I can do 5 mins then stop for 5. Works for me. Been on some weight loss forums where they all started veering off into exercising and trying to encourage me to exercise, and I just switched off as they didn't get it! Would be great to be on here with people I know are friends already!
