    Fridays

    Hi everyone

    Its Friday night, and thats my night for drinking.

    Am at home on my home having spent day sorting life out decluttering flat and getting quote for flat to be deep cleaned (cat hair and general mess).

    But my workmates are all out (and it seems like everyone else I know) is out and I really want a drink.

    Does anyone have any advice on how to get through usual drinking days ?

    Start making a list...you need to keep busy

    paint your nails, dye your hair, give yourself a facial, go for a walk, do an exercise DVD, organize a closet, file paperwork, read a book, light scented candles, take a bath, go to the movies...these are all things I do or have done

    Do things to exhast your energy, do things to pamper yourself, do things to learn new things and become a better person!

      Hi Gargykath - What Precious said, but for tonight, I'd get out of the house after cleaning it up,then go to a movie. In a big city like London there must be loads of cinemas with movies for every taste. I'd find a double feature somewhere, or someplace showing a really long movie. I envy you ... Las Vegas has crap cinema, no art houses, no foreign ... well, enjoy a sober evening! I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!! Just some mental rehearsal of enjoying an AF evening before you go out, and you'll do great!

        I'm with ya Kath. Last week was my first full week on this forum, did great with moderation during the week, but it all went to hell Friday night and through the weekend. Nervous about tonight. It seems to me there is an "energy" in the air on Friday nights.... the bottles they call!!!!!!
        I"m planning to be diligent with Kudzu and l-glut. What helps me too is drinking sparkling water - the real stuff, like gerolsteiner. Gives me the bubbly sort of sensation I'd get from beer. Also lots of chamomile tea helps me, keeps me calmer.

        You are already into Friday evening there in London, right? It's not even 11am for me here in Seattle. I have a whole day still to tell myself I don't want to drink tonight (at least not in excess).

          I haven't done the AF thing but what helps me moderate is planning a nice meal. I find that if I eat something I really enjoy, some thing that is healthy, I am less likely to go overboard. And I try to keep busy as late as possible, like everyone said. I surely hear the Friday sirens. Good luck to everyone staying AF or mods.

            The first while is the toughest! I ditto on what PP has said. It is very important to keep as busy as possible. You will feel like you are missing out - and in some ways you will be for the first while. (The socializing part of it). It is important for some to stay away from the temptation. It won't be forever!

            My first few weekends, my friends would be having a 'good 'ol time' and I honestly felt like I was being ripped off and deprived of having some fun. I was so angry and I had to completely drop off the face of this earth for a while so I could get this under control. Ultimately this was so important to me and my health/happiness I had to distract myself and convince myself I wasn't missing out on anything. I had to stay away from the temptation. Today, I can be around people who are drinking and not have many issues about it. It is tough at times but I still have fun for the most part.

            Hang in there and keep busy. Also keep reminding yourself why you are doing this. Log into here for support when you need to. I don't have this many posts because I think this is an easy thing to do. At least in here, I am safe, and I can relate to all of you. You are worth it - in the end you will be a happier person for it!

              Thanks everyone for your advice.:thanks: I do feel a bit ripped off - all mates can drink and not have a problem....grrrr

              The craving has gone (for now).....I am trying to get through next two hours (when Ugly Betty and Friday night comedy starts which I normally miss as am wasted).

              I am going to have another ciggie and some tea, run bath, go through my clothes again as am making bag for charity shop, and make a list to do tomorrow. Then make some nice pasta I think. And come on here if more cravings

              BTW zincityzen I was in Vegas last year and you may not have a decent cinema, and you may have Celine Dion but you do have Barry Manilow (I am indeed a Fanilow !!!!). I have arranged for a movie night next Friday with a mate who knows what am going through but am alone tonight.

                    my god how weird just watched coronation street and though its friday night and i am dying for a drink i'll go on mwo and moan and voila was beaten to it.
                    hubbys just having a beer and i'm on fanta zero i desparatley want a whisky, but i wont the benefits of being af are just to good to miss, i know if i get through the next half hour i will be fine.

                      Yep, I got that Friday night feeling too (Day 12 for me)!!! Friday is usually American Idol Night in our house with wine flowing like there's no tomorrow!!! (Why is it I didn't feel guilty on a Friday night??) Anyway, hubby is being very supportive and offered that he wouldn't drink either but i insisted he did and that "I'm fine, honestly"!!!! Anyway, I thought I'd pop on here to try and take the "edge" off my craving before I go down for Idol. Good luck everyone! Janice

                          I just spent past hour in bath with Lush bath bomb reading Vanity Fair and thinking naughty thoughts about George Clooney.

                          Wow normally I would be hammered by now and about to go to Edwards to make an idiot of myself.

                            Okay, this one nite you can fantasize about my George. LOL. I'm married but I told my hubby, George comes walking he's out of here I'm nervous too Kath. This is my FIRST Friday not drinking in........I don't know how long. It will definitely be a Test. My hubby says he won't be either. I'll believe it when I see it, but if he doesn't drink.....hmmmm, not what can we do?

                              Think of how great Saturday morning is going to feel!!!! If you make it to the movies treat yourself to a tub of popcorn - butter even!!!
