    Perceptions of Volume

What do you perceive to be too much alcohol in a single day/night?

I know, any alcohol is too much for us on here. But for your person who hasn't addressed their drinking and appears to have no ill affects.

It's only that my generation seems to have a very skewed idea of a what a quiet night is and what a mad one is.

For instance, 4 cans of 4-5% beer is seen as lightweight. A pre drink warm up before heading out.

A mad one might be 4 pints, 4-5 double spirit mixers and shots in between throughout the night.

Or for some girls it may be 2 bottles of wine.

The social norm of amounts to drink (until you are nearly passing out) is doing so much damage to our bodies and minds. The problem is what is perceived to be normal, most definitely isn't.

Just head out to a student night at any university or to any holiday resort where young Brit's go and you will understand the debauchery that goes on.

You are right, the perception of normal drinking seems to be very skewed. To me, one bottle of wine during the course of an evening (5-9pm) seems normal. Even though I know it isn't I still don't think of it as being that bad. One and a half bottles stared to be not normal. I was headed in that direction.

However, I could also drink one bottle within an hour on an empty stomach. I had really negative effects from doing that. That is also not normal.

Either way, one bottle is way more than the one small glass of wine that is recommended for women. There is no way one small 5 ounce glass would ever cut it. I have 8 oz teacups that I consider my "little" teacups. 5 ounces is only slightly more than one half of one of my little teacups! Unbelievable when you actually stop and think about it.

        Good point looking for peace.

Have you noticed how some bars (or people at home) offer these super sized wine glasses. You can almost empty a whole bottle into them. For some people, a half glass in a small glass vs a large glass is a half a glass either way......even though one holds say 125ml of wine and the other holds 400ml of wine.
