These Cravings Are Driving Me INSANE!!!
Good afternoon community, my name is Jon and I have been struggling with my alcoholism for the past 8 years, but it feels like an eternity. I have been to inpatient rehab 5 times and am currently a client in a local intensive outpatient program. I have been on Antabuse for almost two weeks now but have found that my cravings for alcohol are still very intense and it has been 17 days since my last drink. Toward the end of last year I was able to accumulate a little over 100 days of consistent sobriety, but I relapsed a few days after Thanksgiving 2013. This last binge was a fairly severe one. I managed to drink about 4 fifth's within a 2 - 3 day period. My father has been sober now for 18 years. Its hard for me to relate to him because when he got his 3rd DUI after we moved to Maryland, he was court ordered to attend AA meetings for 6 months. Once his probation was up, he stopped going to meetings and has only been to a couple since. He never had a sponsor or really worked the twelve steps, but yet he has managed to accumulate 18 years. I guess you can say he's been dry for 18 years. Anyway if anyone could give me advice on how he/she has managed to curb or deter their cravings in the past, I would more than greatly appreciate it. Take care everyone, be good to yourselves and each other.......God BlessTags: None

These Cravings Are Driving Me INSANE!!!
I've just had this shared on Facebook, thought it might help you take the gloss off any temptations;
THE TRUTH ABOUT ALCOHOL, Real Life Stories – Effects of Drinking Alcohol Addiction
Cravings, I found time helped a lot.
When I didn't I had to use Naltrexone and TSM.
If you can stay AF without medication, please do. You have it in you, you've already done 100 days once.
If an AA meeting helps, then go, if staying in the house watching a DVD helps - do it(I found this very useful with both methods).I used the Sinclair Method to beat my alcoholic drinking.
Drank within safe limits for almost 2 years
AF date 22/07/13

These Cravings Are Driving Me INSANE!!!
As UK Blonde says - time, distraction - these all help with the cravings. So does eating, drinking lots of water/tea. I even found chewing gum gave me something oral to do.
You have done this in the past and you can do it again. But quitting and getting past the cravings - takes time.
Posting and reading here on MWO is a great way to distract as well - plus you will get lots of support. Head over to the Newbies Nest.
You can scream your heart out here - why not start a thread on your progress and frustrations and I bet lots of people will chip in.
