    Rock Bottom

Many thanks for your feedback Arial, a big help. I do belong to a gym, although tend to sit in steam room and try to sweat night before out!
I'm away on my own in Hotels during the week, or I will be when start new job on Monday.

I haven't told my husband I need a complete break from the booze for quite a while- how do you cope if other people around you are drinking? I keep thinking about when I gave up smoking, and how mush easier that seemed because its socially unacceptable, and you can see the danger messages on every packet.

I'm beating myself up about just how far Ive let myself go.,.

Hi capricorn! There is a lot of good advice here. Like many have said, hitting 'your' rock bottom is a great place to start. It is only onwards and upwards if you want it. Your coming here is a good indicator you want to help yourself.

Read the posts, keep posting and download the MWO book to start. There is a wealth of knowledge regarding medications and supplements here as well. It can be done!!

I drank until I blacked out every time I drank. With the tools and support of this website I have had a total of 5 drinks in almost 5 months! I was a big time binge drinker. Anything is possible if you want it bad enough. Have you a doctor you can see to possibly help you with coming off of the alcohol? It may be a good place for you to start.

Also, don't beat yourself up. It does absolutely nothing for you. Clear your head of the negatives and start thinking positively. The more positively you think about a new life that awaits you the better your success.

Being with a person who likes to drink and you wish to quit can be very hard. The only thing that really got me through this was my own determination to do this for me. My husband was chronic like myself but has since cut down to maybe one night a weekend. And this IS progress! I made the decision to abstain for myself - no matter what. I had 4 months of abstainance before attempting to moderate my drinking.

We all are works in progress here. You will find a lot of support. Keep posting and reading. It will help you find a program tailored just for you.

Capricorn, Welcome, and please don't beat yourself up ..... There is nothing you can do to change the past, but you CAN control your future.

One of the wonderful people here once said that they had finally confessed to their doctor, who said something along the lines of 'You don't choose alcoholism, it chooses you' 'but you have to choose to get rid of it, and only you can do it'

You are well on the way cap, with the help of this place you really can do this...

        All the best xx

          (((Capricorn)))

Hon don't beat yourself up for the past. Give yourself an Attagirl for what you are doing now. I too have had some bad experiences while drunk nothing you have done hasn't been done by someone or many here, so you don't have to worry about being judged.

I'm only on AF day 8, but feel very hopeful. I am on Campral and it's not the booze that's so hard to give up, I've found, but as you said, a new routine. My hubby and I have gotten a lot of videos (hey even ones we rented before I was too drunk to watch all of ) and we have walked lots. Got a dog? Great exercise and your dog will love you. Walking is great. Anything that occupies the time one used to spend drinking. I have gone to the fridge many times....habit, come away with flavored water or a snack. Lost some weight just from stopping the booze.

          Glad you are here:welcome:

Thanks for all of your advice, and its true the time I have spent on here alone today has distracted me for alot of the time. I don't have a dog Hart, but I did use to run quite abit.

I've had a lot of things happen in the past that I couldnt control, but hopefully this won't be one of them!

              Welcome Capricorn!

I hope things will improve for you from this day on. Like others have said, sometimes it takes a pretty bad experience to make us change. I like the quote from Betty about alcoholism choosing you. I am trying to moderate and have found this site very helpful and distracting. Good luck and keep posting.:welcome:

                Hi Capricorn and welcome!
You have already gotten lots of great advice from some of our wonderful members.
I relate completely to what you are saying about panic attacks. In fact, Ill bet a lot of us do. They are closely related (anxiety, panic) to drinking because drinking effects your central nervous system. A lot of people find that when they get off the sauce, the panic attacks go away. Get yourself a good vitamin B supp - you are probably deficient and this helps. That, along with the L-Glut and Gabba tend to help. Also, try the calmes forte.
                Welcome 'home'
                Hugs

Panic attacks are also related to low magnesium.

It seems to get alot busier here at this time of day looking at the other replies posted to some of the other threads since I left an hour ago. I guess this is the time when most of us would have been looking to unwind with something after work.
I have just got on the scales and realised I have put on over half a stone through booze in the last few weeks since been off work!

I may not be back on til tomorrow, so hope you all have a good nite!

OK, someone help here. How much in pounds is a stone? I am overweight myself but trying to guess at the stone thing! Where did that term originate?

One stone is 14 pounds. Its the form of weight measurement in Europe (maybe not all of Europe and it could also be elsewhere) but I dont know where the term originated.

According to the web pageHow Many? A Dictionary of Units of Measurement, "Scholars believe the avoirdupois pound was invented by wool merchants and modeled on a pound of 16 ounces used in Florence, Italy, which was an important buyer of English wool at the time. The avoirdupois weights quickly became the standard weights of trade and commerce. They continue to be used for most items of retail trade in the United States, and they remain in some use in Britain despite the introduction of metric units there

Capricorn, I discovered this site last week. Don't know how hard it is for you to get the CDs, supplements, etc, but try to do that. The CDs have really helped. Try to make a commitment each day as to what you want the day to be like. Give yourself some visual. I have a bracelet that I look at when my thoughts stray from that commitment. The folks here are very supportive and know what you are going through. And, everyone is right, the only way for you now is up. No need to stay at rock bottom. Glad you are here.

stones and pounds are used in England, in France we use kilos and grams. 2.2lbs = 1kg. The French do still talk about a pound of butter, the older ones at least.

                                Morning all.
Sorry if I confused you with the stone thing Ducky. Its 7llbs, doesnt sound alot, but I normally only weigh about 110llbs. Its weird because although I am out of control with booze, I do try and control everything else including my weight.
Hope you are all doing well, and it was a nice change to wake up with a clear head today, although I had very bad night sweats last nite.
