    milk thistle

Hi.....I just started taking milk thistle cause I found out
my liver enzymes are raised. I have been drinking very heavy
for a little over a year.... brandy and beer daily pretty
much. But I recently stopped taking a statin drug for high
blood pressure...cause I found out they can cause liver damage.
I was on that med for over two years. I had started drinking from
About 2 in the afternoon til I went to sleep. I started the milk thistle last week.
Since I started the Mt I stopped drinking the brandy and now drink like 16-20oz
of red wine and 2-3 12oz lite beers in the evening. Will this
Affect the way the Mt works in my liver?

Hello & welcome to MWO -143!

One sure-fire way to get those enzymes down to a normal range is to eliminate AL altogether. Have you given that option any thought?

Why don't you drop in the Newbies Nest thread for more support & see what the others are doing. We also have a great Tool box full of ideas to help you put a plan together. Taking back control of your life is something you'll never regret

      Wishing you the best!

        Yea Lav I have....
But I'm just not ready to stop all the way...I'm working on
not drinking everyday..... I just started all this last week.
I'm just getting to the point where I don't get that nervous itchy
        feeling if I don't drink by 2pm.....I have a few after 9pm....
and to night it almost felt like I could make it until tomorrow. I
didn't but it felt good not to feel like I had to. Please keep me in your
        prayers!

I took Milk thistle while I was drinking and I got slightly better test results. I have been AF now for over 7 months and for the first time in years my liver tests were normal. MT does work but nothing beats laying off the juice.

I took a pile of milk thistle when I was drinking - you know, to help my liver:H. I did the dandelion tea etc as well. It probably didn't make any difference at all - my liver enzyme results just got steadily worse. And you couldn't tell this by my appearance and other health indicators - all very good. Nothing remarkable there.

It was only after months of abstinence that my liver results slowly recovered to the normal range - and by that I mean very slowly. It was very worrying and who knows what long term damage I have done.

It does take time to quit and its great that you have changed your drinking habits. Have a go in the Newbies Nest as Lav suggests.
