new horizon, you have already gotten THE best advice! I went cold turkey, too. I found that one drink only led to another one, so tapering didn't work for me. I felt flu like the first couple of weeks, so treat yourself well with lots of fluids and EAT. Eating the silver bullet to this thing! Eat until you are full!! You won't want anything else, Alcohol included. As alkies, we aren't used to eating, so enjoy your food and really taste and experience it! Pour all the AL you have in the house OUT or put it where you can't get to it. Otherwise, it will sprout heads and start talking to you. There are really only about 4 hours tonight to negotiate, we can get you thru those! We are so glad you found us, welcome aboard! Byrdie

New Horizons, depending on your preference, you could make a pitcher with sliced apples, cinnamon, lemon slices and ice, or lemon slices, sliced cucumber, 10 mint leaves, and ice, or you could make an iced tea with lemon slices... Eating dinner is an awesome strategy. How old are your 4 children? One of the rituals we recently started was eating as a family- just like the Brady Bunch. Your kids may wonder why, but will soon enjoy it (if you don't already do it)

Welcome New Horizon,
Try Calms Forte as recommended in MWO. It's an all natural sleep aid/stress reliever and it helped me my first 30 days. It is available in the US at any Walgreens/CVS in the sleep aid section. I would usually take 3 before bed.
Good luck - glad you're here.Mary Lou

I'm very proud of the changes you've decided to make- yes, they are little ones, but combined, they will make a difference. If I could re-wind my family memory's clock, I would have changed dinner time rituals for my family.

I would love to try that! I absolutely LOVE my crockpots (I have two!). I always have something cooking in there. My daughter and I have different schedules so I just have food ready at all times. LOL I have some garlic/teriyaki chicken in there right now, and tonight I'll make some rice, and viola...dinner with hardly any work. Yes I know we should have some veggies...but hey, we can just take a vitamin. LOL:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:

NH - There's a lovely little thread that you might like to join. It's called "One Step At A Time" and we start a new one monthly. I can honestly say that I have true friends there. We all support each other, no matter what. You're welcome to join in! :l (We get a little off topic sometimes, but we have fun):heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:
