Long Weekend Ahead: Pissed Off Already
I've somehow managed to limit my "spectacles" to around one a year, but that doesn't stop me from quaffing a dozen or so cold ones every Saturday and Sunday. We have three small kids, and my wife, who is the daughter of a really bad alcoholic, has drawn a line in the sand. I also know in my heart of hearts that, even if I am not barfing in the weeds or breaking a neighbor's antique dining room chair (yes, I did break an antique dining room chair), it is flat wrong to spend ten hours every weekend day drinking beer.
And O'Doul's would definitely not cut it for me!

Hey LegalEagle, are you taking any meds? Topomax? That will definitely take the angst off if you have something. My ex used to break a few chairs. He concquered the stuff, but it is no easy job for sure.Be careful about reading health books. You might die of a misprint. --Mark Twain

I have kudzu'd up. With me, it's a whole ritualized thing. The jonesing isn't so much for the beer itself, but the whole beer, chilling, doing nothing, relaxing thing. I'm not sure it is a hole that medications could help fill. I think I need to kind of re-think what a weekend really is.

What ever you do it will be a weekend when you are more conscious of what is going on. If you drink, think about each beer and if you really want it or is it just habit. Try on the first day not to drink, pay attention to how you feel. Every hour in the begining is a step in the right direction.
Have a good weekendSuz
Happy to be sober since 07 Sept 09.

I used to be in a profession where I taught and motivated people into doing things they never thought they could do. They kept telling themselves over and over and telling me, "no way can I do it", but when they did, it was sure fun to see. It is funny that I am on the other side of the fence now, but reading and talking on here is making me feel like something is changing inside of me for the better....I actually feel excited about this weekend. I will feel like Rocky when I succeed. ta da da....ta da da...

Yeh' I agree start after the weekend, other wise you will realy hate yourself if you fail, maybe a good time to try controlled drinking see how you go. (not good at that one myself ones to many and one hundreds not eough) I like mineral water myself its as refreshing as beer, and has bubbles toboot..ACCEPTANCE IS A POWERFUL THING

Hi LegalEagle,
Here's an option if you do decide to drink over the weekend. Pack your own bottled water (16 or 24 ounce size) and in between each drink make yourself drink all of one of the bottled waters. I bet that after three or four monster waters, your desire to ingest liquid may have waned, not to mention the fact that it will allow time to pass into between your alcoholic beverages so you will have more of an opportunity to make a rational decision about whether or not to tip another one. Good luck with whatever you decide to do over the holiday. Don't give up. I've been here three months+ and I'm in what I would call the beginning stage of making positive changes. I'm learning to moderate. Have a safe holiday.

Long Weekend Ahead: Pissed Off Already
Legal Eagle,
I have to say if not starting now then there will always be one last weekend . . . one last go. At least that is how my soaked mind works....... Why start now, why not wait until the first of the month ... clean page on the calendar. Why start now, why not wait until after Father's Day another great weekend to relax . . . then there is always the 4th of July. 22 is my lucky number I should wait until that date!!! It is too hard to start during the summer and you know Christmas is coming all those parties!!! At any rate, there will always be a reason NOT to start. Why not look at the reasons to start. I agree with others what a boost to make it through a challenging weekend. Good luck!!! Also know that this is a pep talk that I am trying to give myself too!!!
