I was listening to the Bubble Hour podcast today (thanks for the referral, NoSugar), and came across their episode on relapse prevention. They go through the 11 steps of relapse (which end in #11, drinking), and talk about changing thinking and changing actions to avoid relapse. The show ends with three stories of relapse and what they learned from them. It was a good reminder to me to keep working at staying sober even when I am tired of focusing on alcohol. This affliction does not go away.
Also, they emphasize the idea of surrender beyond alcohol - understanding that we can't control everything. I seem to recognize a lot of us type A control freaks here, and that has been a powerful lesson (that I am still learning) in my life.
I was feeling funky, put the podcast on my phone and went on an hour and a half walk while listening to it. Two birds with one stone - focus on sobriety AND taking steps to take care of myself with exercise.
Warning: The hosts are not professionals. But we can't control everything...
Enjoy.
