    Wake Up D@#$'t. Long Post

Briseus, I couldn't agree more. There were many nights that I almost choked down that first glass of wine. Unfortunately, it always got so much easier after the first one. Now I realize that AL tastes more like something we should put in our gas tank or clean the toilet with.

Panhead - I think once you stop drinking, and give it some time, you will lose your taste for AL. Of course, I can still trigger when I see someone having a drink. I remember how "good" it tasted, but the truth is that my goal was always to get drunk - even if I wouldn't admit it back then. It never really tasted good, but I had convinced myself that I loved the taste of wine. It's that cognitive dissonance thing going on.

Hang in there. How are you doing today?
Everything is going to be amazing

Wow!! Thanks everyone. I am doing good so far. We will see by the end of the day. Have a lot of stuff scheduled for after work, so maybe I will be to busy to think about drinking.

Thanks again everyone. You guys make me feel better already.

        Panhead,
You said about not liking the buzz, but liking the taste. I read Allen Carr's "Easy Way to Stop Drinking," and it was a really good book and interesting perspective on booze. If you get a chance, look it up. The other book similar to that is Jason Vale's book, "Kick the Drink Easily." Both books are similar in nature, and really look at booze from a new perspective, a different perspective from the one that is glamorized everywhere.
Sometimes what you're most afraid of doing is the very thing that will set you free.

J-vo, Thanks for the book titles. I'm going to see if I can download them from Amazon and read them while I'm' camping the next few days. This trip will be a big challenge for me as the end of each day includes drinks around the campfire. I hope I'm ready!

Oh the buzz.... That's always what I was going for. Never the taste. The taste sucks IMO. But the buzz... I was always chasing the buzz and it kept getting further and further away so it took more and more AL to get there.

Panhead, You can do this.... One day at a time.

PH and Ginger - I totally second j-vo's book recommendations. Those two books will make you look at AL in a completely different way. Game changers.

Panhead - hanging in there? Staying busy is a very good plan.

Just downloaded Kick the Drink Easily to my phone because they had a kindle version. Just started reading it. This is going to be part of my plan this camping trip. When I get wiggly, I'm going to sneak away from the campfire and read a few pages. Try and stay focused on staying AF.

How are you doing today, Panhead?

Welcome Panhead! whiskey was my drink of choice. I thought that if I just bought it a half pint at a time I didn't have a problem. It's just that the half pints added up to about a half gallon a week. I have been af now for 147 days. It got to the point that on my days off I was having wiskey with my morning coffee so that the shakes would go away. This site has been great. There are wonderful people here that can help you keep things in perspective. Good Luck. By the way do you own a panhead?
