    headaches anyone???

Yes i've been waking up with terrible headaches too and not sleeping well, in fact, i've been having real 'wake up screaming' nightmares as well. Disappointing but not nearly as bad as the hangovers. Unfortunately I've also been eating like mad, falling onto food like a ravenous shark so I need to sort this out - been lurking for months but too scared to post but feel like I know a lot of you really well now - you are a smashing bunch! Tried AA about 7 years ago - just didn't really work for me (no reflection on them) - this site is an inspiration though xx

          headaches anyone???

Sue Ellen, the nightmares are unbelievable, aren't they? I havn't had dreams like that since I was a child, and ran to mommy and daddy's bed I was so scared. I found myself many times getting up and checking around to make sure nothing was going on in the house. I've also went to the kitchen many times to get some water, and would just grab a book and read, too disturbed to go back to sleep. These should pass. They did for me after a few weeks of sobriety(went I went longer in the past.) I've heard them called poison dreams before. Good name for them.
          where does this go?

            headaches anyone???

Welcome to Sue Ellen and Jane,

Kay M - thanks for the tip. I've been taking liver detox supplements containing amongst other things milk thistle. I've had some very good advice from people saying to eat wholesome foods too, but this explanation really does help to understand how the body gets rid of everything. Also, drinking loads of water helps the toxins out of the body and also helps with the headaches - I've found that I was actually quite dehydrated.

I've had 6 a/f days out of 10 so far and have reduced my drinking by at least 3/4. The support here certainly helps and I haven't suffered as badly as I thought I would. Maybe if I'm a/f for longer I might - I admire all you guys who have got to 30+ days.

I've had a few bad dreams but I wouldn't call them nightmares but I have heard that they are common when withdrawing. Good analogy Morrison - how true you are.

Good luck and hang in there.
            Sweet
            xx

I feel as though it's all happening to someone right next to me.
I'm close, I can feel it, I can hear it, but it isn't really me.

                headaches anyone???

Jane: Usually after 30 days of AF I get a wicked mingraine and take Imitrex for it. I don't leave home without my Imitrex. Migraines are so debilitating. I also noticed that when I go AF for several days I get anxious and really stressed out. I suffer from TMJ as well. Hence, I start grinding my jaw. Because I plan to go cold turkey, I know these symptoms will soon appear. I'm prepared to ride them out and pop and Imitrex as needed and continue with Cymbalta to calm my nerves.

Well done Reenie, stick at it.

I too feel stressed out and anxious (almost a depressed feeling). I also get more of a muzzy headache, not a full on one, which I can actually live with.

You'll definitely get alot of valuable advice and support on this site, so keep posting.

                  Take care

                      headaches anyone???

                      Topa and Headaches

I have been off the hard liquor for two weeks now. Hooray! Also, since I went from 25 mg to 50 mg of Topamax on Friday (this past Friday) I wake up every other night with a pretty bad headache - never got them before, not even when hung over - and an Advil took care of that. Now I just keep Advil by the bed and am going to take the Topa a bit earlier in the afternoon since it doesn't appear to make me groggy.

I have been sticking to one or two glasses of red wine a night, which is pretty amazing for me since I was a three to five heavy liquor (heavy pourer, too) a night drinker. I have watched the empty calories go from 700 down to about 100 or 200. I sleep very well and so far no fogginess or problems with word recall or anything like that.

I take all the supps and did meditation anyway. I think the headache thing is Topa related but am going to stick with it to see if/when these middle-of-the-night headaches will go away.
