Sugar headaches....

Sugar headaches....
Eloise - I hope today finds you feeling better and headache free. You probably already know this, but one thing you might try if sugar relieves your headaches is fruit (not fruit juice) instead of other sugary foods. The fructose will give you sugar but the fiber will slow its absorption and spike your blood sugar less. For sugar cravings, a lot of people find L-Glutamine to be helpful (also good for alcohol cravings). Putting it under your tongue and letting it dissolve works fastest.
Hang in there and please keep us posted.Everything you want is on the other side of fear.

Sugar headaches....
Thanks Wagmore... I hope you saw my comments about doggiedeath? I swear to you if I could switched places with my little dachshund when she was poisoned, I would have gladly done so. I spent more time with my doggies than I did with anyone else over 11 years. They can first in everything I did. Sometimes people would say 'In my next life I want to be your dachshund!' They were more well traveled than a lot of people I knew. Paris, Italy, Caribbean.. they went everywhere with me. I boarded them 2x for business trips. That was it.
Yes, I still miss them and you have my deepest sympathy for your recent loss. I think the only thing to do is run out and find yourself another doggie soul that needs a good mom.
I have turned to fruit to replace sugary treats as of yesterday, and it seems to okay.
Sugar also has this sedating effect on me, which fruit does not. And it is equally delicious.
Headache is okay this afternoon, thanks.
I have a huge stash of L-Glut, but I often forget about it.
I put extra into my bag... it does help too. I will get there... pretty excited to have made it to day 40.(AF since 17 May 2014) 2 years 5 months sober

Sugar headaches....
Congratulations on reaching day 40, Eloise!
I'm also a dog-lover (although mine are a bit bigger and really don't travel well!) so can relate to the pain you and Wags have experienced.
I'm glad you're feeling a bit better today. :h NS

Sugar headaches....
You know NS I am looking at this sugar & headaches problem as a bit of an experiment.
I am fine now, but had a bit of a lingering headache when I awoke this morning. A peach helped.
I am really hoping time will solve this... last night I was ready to see the doctor this morning as the headache had returned.
Today is better. Could be a combo of sugar and hormones?
Anyhow... thanks for noticing my 40 days. I am pretty excited I have finally made a decision about all this. And, it is good for me to realize how much drinking has me off balance. I am someone who loves harmony in my life, no drama. Can't stand the unpredictable... now that my life has changed so completely I feel like I have to be 100 percent aware of what is going on.
Not drinking seems a good way to at least hope I have a handle on things.
By the way, we have 2 doggies still. Both strays from the Caribbean. I adopted an elderly dachshund down there some 6 years ago, just before we moved, she was ALSO poisoned. Something thrown over the fence? Rat poison put down by the gardener? So hard to know.. She was old and would have hated the weather in the Netherlands. (I keep telling myself). There will be another dachshund in my life soon I hope.(AF since 17 May 2014) 2 years 5 months sober

Eloise - Keep it up with the fruit and try the glutamine - let us know how things go. Hormones could certainly be part of it as well.
I did see your post about doggie death and just replied in Loamers. So very sad what happened to your little girl. Almost nothing makes me as angry as people doing anything to mistreat or neglect an animal - that someone would deliberately or even carelessly poison one really pisses me off. I, too, was extremely close to my dog who died from cancer - she had been my closest friend through so many difficult years and losing her just broke me.
Now I have a new pup, and although I still miss my long-time friend, this new little girl is happy and waggy and really brightens up my days.Everything you want is on the other side of fear.

Hey Eloise, fantastic on the 40 days and I'm so glad the headaches are abating . Mine are too and I also haven't been eating any sugar..
It great to start feeling better and being more in tune with our bodies needs so we can cut something out or add something in
Keep going girl !

Sugar headaches....
Another great thread here, peeps! I learn so much from all of you. Last day at the beach with my sis and 4 gkids aged 6-15. Headed out for another adventure today. Still struggling with the sugar... Ugh... I'm going to stock up on fruit today, if I can find any worth buying. Fruit can be so iffy in these parts for some reason. Seems like it's always picked too soon or way past it's prime. I'm gaining weight because of the sugar so I have to STOP that cycle! Have a great AF and SF day!!

Maybe you could have a handful of trail mix, Ginger, that is heavier on the nuts and coconut and lighter on the dried fruits. If you get some fat and protein along with the natural sugar, it is much more satiating. I don't eat them often due to the high sugar/carbs of the dates but in a pinch, a Larabar is an ok option and they are easy to keep with you.

Glad you have a new pup Wags!
I am so ready for a new hotdog in my life.
Well I must admit I am feeling a lot better than 2 days ago.
I think the fruit is making a huge difference. I am even having less cravings today, how is that possible?
So quickly I mean!
Anyhow, I am going to just be grateful and go with it.

Sugar headaches....
Yes, and for me this is all rather new as when I was drinking I never ate sweets. Not even fruit every day. Then I stopped with the wine, and wow all I could think about was 'Ice cream!!!" and "Chocolate chip cookies!!! Whoopie!!"
My husband was like ' Um no thanks, you help yourself dear.'
He is really polite. He never once called me a little piggie, which I clearly was behaving like one. We are talking almost 40 days of ice cream and cookies. Omg, scary.
Yesterday I ate 2 bananas, a peach and a grapefruit.
I was so full I could hardly eat my dinner.
Today, I only ate a peach before the gym (headache starting) and a handful of raisins and I feel pretty okay. Oh and some yucky left over pasta. I am keeping a backup peach handy though. It is kind of funny because I am rather enjoying this!
Thanks so much for your input NS!!(AF since 17 May 2014) 2 years 5 months sober
