JUNE NEWBIES IN NEED - DAY 8

Thanks Bluesky! This Newbies in Need is definately a good thing.

I overcame my first craving today... it was hard. It lasted about 20 mins, the hard thing is i am at home and have 1/3 bottle in the cupboard. But with some rational thoughts, i overcame the impulse to drink and then had something to eat. I got a second, not so severe craving a few hours after that. I am finding a link between eating starchy, sweet foods and the craving for the demon drink. I think i am going to stick to proteins as much as i can.

Well, i am craving good & proper now and am just about to get a meal that i traditionally used to drink with. I am looking forward to having it sober, i might actually know what it tastes like. Lol.

Hope everyone's doing well. Ran into a friend of mine today, he has testicular cancer, i hope he's okay. Made me realise how precious life is.

JUNE NEWBIES IN NEED - DAY 8

Hey Change, Great to hear from you and thanks for all your valuable input and a huge congratulations for overcoming the "cravings" they will subside eventually, thank goodness. Well, not sure if your 1/3 of a bottle is wine or stronger, but I would throw it, I don't like temptation standing in the way, but bravo to you for resisting it. Not sure what you are about to eat, but Bon App, it's breakfast time here in Europe, so I've just finished my "ALL ONE" Powder, not that appetizing, but that's what Roberta suggests, so it's up and over, whether I enjoy it or not! Someone will get back to you on the starchy, sweet foods and their link with the desire to drink. There are so many helpful and knowledgeable friends here at MWO that you will always get an amazing answer for any question.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend and his testicular cancer, I hope he manages to beat it without too much pain. Unfortunately I had a mastectomy in 2004 and still continued to drown myself in wine, how silly was that, chemo/radio therapy for starters followed by buckets of wine for dessert, crazy, n'est pas? Anyway no looking back, only forward, thank goodness I found MWO.

      See you around later.

JUNE NEWBIES IN NEED - DAY 8

Morning everyone! Had a rough couple of days this week, but it's really good to be back. Thanks everyone for being so understanding and encouraging!

Hi Change - good job on resisting the craving! I find the association the worst part of not drinking too ... have a barbeque (and a beer), work in the garden (have a beer), have friends over for a meal (have lots of wine), play with the kids outside (have a beer) ... the list goes on. I guess I'm learning that part of this is breaking the association of drinking with my everyday activities.

          Anyway, keep on keepin' strong!

Hi Bluesky, thanks... MWO is a great site.

Sorry to hear about mastectomy, but it sounds like you are looking towards the future, which is a good thing.

Good morning to everyone! It is nightime here, we are on a different clock, so i must remember this when posting (eg., not talk about rich curries first thing in the moring!:yukko.

JUNE NEWBIES IN NEED - DAY 8

Hi Tea, good luck with the reading, a very good idea to get you through the oh so challenging W/Es. Put the kettle on, drink loads of "green" tea and away you go! HI Diverrob:happy: - great to see you back - we can do this together and yes I totally agree, it is an association "thing" - I think that's why I have been successful up until now as I've been totally unsociable, that's what works for me so that's how I'm doing it for the moment, no dinner parties, no evenings out with friends, etc. etc. Hubby doesn't care about drink so no problem on the home front - and of course in the meantime, exercise, exercise and more exercise. Change, thanks for the kind words:huggy; lucky you a curry, yummy, I'm also on a diet, no fattening foods for me, :upset: :upset: .

                Good morning Newbies,

I have been reading but not posting as much the last few days. Doing pretty well with mods. I hope some day it won't be as much a struggle, but I may be kidding myself.

Off to the gym in a few.

Good luck to everyone this w/e, whether you are aiming for mods or AF. BBL with more personals. Bluesky, you amaze me with your ability to keep track of everyone!

JUNE NEWBIES IN NEED - DAY 8

                    Hi everyone, Happy Friday!!

Well day 3 af again for me today, and I have to admit I feel great, mentally that is. Physically I have the most terrible headache. One of those ones that if I move my eyes in any direction they absolutlely kill me.

They even hurt a bit iff I press on them. I don't know what causes this but I think it is blocked sinuses.

Sorry not to say hi to you all individually but at the moment I just can't read much because of the headache.

Hope you are all having a good day, and I'll pop back later.

JUNE NEWBIES IN NEED - DAY 8

Wow Bluesky! you are amazing!! I really appreciate the time you took to acknowledge everyone. One can tell kindness comes easy to you It's amazing what a little encouragement does for a person. You mention mastectomy --which scares the living daylights out of any woman -- you are a strong woman, I'm sorry you have had to go through that. You know my relapse was a year and half ago and what caused it was unrelenting, grief stricken stress -- one wishes one could be stronger under challenging circumstances but sometimes we just aren't and is no reflection on who we really are inside. It is part of the journey and we get back on track as best we can. I'm glad you are alive and still here.

Today I'm planning on some self care --I'm to the emotional period time...(just don't drink, no matter what, hey) The exercise was fun yesterday (Ducky I hope to become has diligent as you with the exercise) and then I went and stocked up on healthy foods -- now I just have to eat them...ever notice there is lots of cutting and chopping when eating healthy?

hey Kitty are your drinking water? Helps with headaches especially after just quitting. Hope it subsides.

Ohhh evergreen, sniffles and hugs and smiles. My last puppy(son) just graduated. Yep, they are all grown up now. I miss when when his little arms wrapped around my neck...sigh but new things await, true? Hope your weekend party is great.(that's a lot of people!)

Change you are so right about eating simple carbs and sweets and even caffeine. Alcohol is processed as a sugar and when we eat these thing it causes our insulin to shoot up and then drop like a rocket -- and to balance it we need more of the same and we usually drink alcohol to fix it... small protein meals like cheese stick and cracker, peanut butter on a bagel, yogurt(sugar free) and an apple when you have a craving> L-glutamine kills a craving. 500 milligrams under the tongue. Some people take two supps 1/2 hour before a meal for the first couple months of quitting. it is proven to help with cravings. (my tip for the day--lol! Just tell me to shut up if I get annoying)

Love your avatar DiverRob! Tea what kind of books? You can do it
iced I read your post yesterday and i'm Rooting for you.

JUNE NEWBIES IN NEED - DAY 8

                          morning..
I made it 5 days now with no alcohol. Today is day 6 and I am still very lethargic and tired even after 8 hours of sleep. I am dreading today as I think it is going to be similar to yesterday except that today is Friday, which may make it harder. If I can make it today and tomorrow then I will have gone a week and am trying to focus on that.

Anyone have any ideas when I might actually start feeling better and more alive? I thought that everything I read said that I would feel better than ever, but I honestly am feeling worse than I would if I just drank every day. The lack of motivation to do anything, lack of energy, and general blah is just unreal. Last night was a real struggle to stay sober because I knew that within 1 hour of drinking I would be feeling "good". It might have only been temporary, but right now I have not had anything other than feeling blah. Any suggestions?

Bluesky I also am impressed and touched by your remembering all us MWOers. Day whatever for me. Joe wants to go to 90 then see. Me I'm taking it one day at a time now. I'm with you Kitty :l I have a horrible headache myself. I'm drinking lots of water, but caffeine too.

We have Evan tonite. He hasn't been over for a long time so doesn't know we aren't drinking. Looking forward to his surprise. That kid will definitely say something.....think something immediately say it....that's Evan....not always a GREAT thing if it's not about us, but funny sometimes.

Another weekend. Should be easier w/Evan here. If he weren't I hope I'd be okay. Would be better if this HEADACHE would go away! But this too shall pass. And really, how many headaches have I had because I drank too much the nite before? LOTS

JUNE NEWBIES IN NEED - DAY 8

Bluesky, thanks for starting the thread and being so very thoughtful and supportive to everyone. Are you in lovely France? Paris?

Kitty, I had killer headaches for a few weeks after I stopped drinking and it turned out to be sinus infection and allergies. Yours sound like it could be also and it’s easily curable. Good luck.

Hart, could your headaches be because of allergies? You also live in WA like me and we have allergies season big time around here. Hope you feel better soon. It’s so damn debilitating to have headaches!

We’ll I’m not AF anymore and my hubby is happy to have me back as his drinking buddy. The Topa and the subs sure help because I don’t like to drink as much as I used to. I can take it or leave it. Nice! I would never have believed I could have become a 2 -4 beer a night kind of gal. I’m going to have to be careful not to slide down old slippery roads though.

Iced, sorry your feeling so bad. I know that trying to exercise, going for walks, even short ones help build motivation and strength. Sometimes you just have to push yourself to do it, but if you have a friend that can go with you for 15 minutes a day to start, it will help. Are you taking vitamins?
