Stopped over at the house to see my baby girl and told wife I went to a meeting a she damn near fell over. This is my 1st quit with the intention of stopping for good, in the past i knew in 2 weeks i would drink again because that was long enough to calm the energy in the house. So i go to leave and she gave me a big hug and said she was proud of me. It's a start. I think if I can fix me everything might be ok.

Thanks for all the support. It does mean alot to me. Left work early and went to a meeting. Going to another shortly. Funny thing is I hate gatherings but felt very comfortable in that room with those people and one of them pointed out its because I am one of those people. I guess its hard for me to relate to most people, my alcoholic mind is wired different. But put me in a room of alcoholics and I don't feel the need to have my armor on. I will beat this.

Welcome Matthew and this is the start of the rest of your life and it is a good life sober. A lot of people will not believe you when you give up drinking. With me it was like "oh yeah for how long", "seen this before" etc etc and with good reason. As Byrd said i did get my children on board. Afternoon witching hour at 5.15 was my worst and the drive home and not going to a bottlo was hard. All it took was for me to ring or message my children and for them to say "no mum you dont want a wine" got my al brain focusing on them instead of that craving/need/urge. It still wasnt easy but they are worth being sober for, they are my life and i have one now. I am proud of me and my children will tell anyone that their mum was an alcoholic and she gave up for them and a better life. They are not ashamed of who i was just embarrassed at times. My relationships are 110% better now i am sober.
Keep it going you will never ever regret sobriety but like any drug it will try and entice you back into its fold.AF free 1st December 2013 - 1st December 2022 - 9 years of freedom

God must have a sense of humor, went to tonights posted location and no one there. Drove half an hour to a different town and it's looking closed as well, although i am a half hour early. I'll wait and see. I don't want to go back to the damn apartment.

Stick with it Matthew6.
You're taking action right here right now to get your precious life where you want it. What you are doing is real special and the start of something magical. Push through and do whatever it takes.
Be proud and keep it going friend. G

I'm sorry the meeting wasn't on. That's the cool thing about MWO - available 24/7 and usually someone is around to "talk" to. If not, just pick a page in a thread like the Newbies Nest or Toolbox and read... Or write - sometimes putting your thoughts out here can really help. The main thing is not to let a disappointment like a canceled meeting be an excuse to drink. Hang in there, NS

Matthew, most AA meetings are in churches, don't be discouraged if there are no meetings, a lot of time the meetings change and the notices don't. But since you're there, why not stop in at the church, a great place for quiet reflection or meditation, maybe even a priest or pastor around to share your troubles with....just a thought...Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.
Friendship is not about how many friends you have or who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you", and proved it.

Welcome, Matthew. Way to go. I believe that the worst day of your life will come to be your best. I am glad you got to see your wife and daughter and get their support.
And I concur about Byrdie. I held tight to those tailfeathers, too.
We're with you!

Well, no meeting tonight. Try again in the a.m. Back to God's sense of humor, I get back to my apartment and all my neighbors are out drinking on the porch. Talked to them for awhile and most everyone in this place has been to AA, told me good ones to look for. Even recommended a nice small church whose pastor is a recovered alcoholic.
Kind of funny when you aren't afraid to admit what you are you find people that care.

Well, almost through day 2. Found 2 meetings open this morning, and going to one shortly. Just wanted to say thanks to my new cyber friends!
Byrdlady thanks for the chat box offer but i couldn't find it or the toolbox, maybe because I'm on a phone.
Anyhow, see you all in the nest!

The Tool Box link is in my signature line. Its hard for me to find, too, so I stuck it there. The chat box is at the very top of the page in 2 places, one says CHAT NOW and on the line below that it says Chat Box Full. Either will work.
So proud of your nearly completed Day 2! Now rinse and repeat! Hugs, B
