as a relative newcomer I was just surfing around and one thing that stands out in my mind is how many profiles are rather lacking in any kind of detail. If somebody replies to a comment I make I can go visit that person's profile, but so often there is absolutely NOTHING revealing about that person, nothing to say "I think this person can relate to me. I will take a chance and reach out to this person in the hopes that they can help me". To me, what that does is proliferate the idea that "I am a private entity from you, and my wall is this high, and you can't enter it." I can understand that when you're new here you're a bit apprehensive about revealing your full self, but after awhile you'd think defenses would become a little less and one would be a little more revealing about oneself. Just a thought that for the newbies sake, and maybe even for each of us, that if we can lower our defenses and maybe reveal a little bit more than we're comfortable sharing about ourselves, maybe we'll be able to help both ourselves and others with our similar patterns of behavior. I'm not talking about major disclosures here. I'm talking about filling up your profile with information about yourself that can potentially help yourself or other people ... just simple interests or hobbies, or what interested you in MWO. Anything! Just consider upgrading your profile, okay? Because there're newcomers here, and we don't always have the time or the know-how to find the people that will click with us and understand us. With updated and complete profiles we have that advantage to help both ourselves and a newcomer. Just something to consider.

And one other thing for everyone, be sure to keep an eye out on your pm box, as unpaid members you are only allowed a total of 100 messages, so be sure to leave some room....

Interesting point, Idefineme...maybe it's because its a form of AA where members don't really want to share any other aspects of themselves besides the thing they have I common. Personally it rarely crosses my mind to go into people's profiles as I feel like I am invading someone's privacy unless it's someone I've established a connection with. I would however like to know where we are all from, age and gender.
AbcCowboy...are some members here paid?

Idef, I thought this was a good idea, so I went over to your page to 'get ideas' and I didn't see anything filled out! Bah!!! I am heading over to mine to do a little customization!

Edit: I can't figure out how to make it stick! I'm hitting EDIT, then SAVE, but it doesn't seem to show up?!! I'm not the best at technical stuff.....

liz, I don't mean anything in depth, just minor details like you mention ... where from, approximate age, sex. I get the anonymity thing, and that's actually a big reason for my being on an online forum.

Byrdie, LOL! I have some stuff on there, where I'm from and my occupation, granted it's not much, but it's a start. I'll use this excuse for as long as I can: :newhere: (that's about as tech-savey as I get! haha!) I do intend to put more out there, but have had problems with making the changes "stick" too. If anybody has some insight that would be wonderful!

Liz,I think he means non subscribing members,paying for a subscription gets you more privileges

I updated my profile.. it was actually kind of fun... to say who I am while keeping my identity anon.
