Recovering addicts are sensitive, often because we are subconsciously looking for justification to run back to the addiction.

We have used our addictions, often for decades, to prevent ourselves feeling and without our substance/behaviour of choice we are raw and naked.

Truth is that the only way through it and back to dealing with painful emotions.....is to deal with painful emotions.



ABcowboy I have left MWO on 2 occasions because I felt attacked and unwanted, because I was an outspoken atheist but also because I felt the need to challenge the belief of others.

What I actually needed to do is grow the fuck up! This is an open forum and people will say, be, believe, AND have avatars we don't like.

Don't be me and cut off your nose to spite your face.

There are people here who benefit from your help, but let me assure you that if you leave they WILL move on and get over your leaving.

People are resilient and can recover from anything!

Some of you, Lex...treetops, kuya have the funniest humor. Still chuckling.

This is what I hate about the online world. In real life people can give a look, retract or explain a statement to clarify things, etc. but here in the written world, we are how people perceive what we write and sometimes everything is misconstrued. I have been here since 08 and in that time I recall 3 suicides from members. Wouldn't a person feel bad if they had written something nasty to one of them and that happened to be their last day on earth? We come here to build each other up, not poison each other with our words.

Gilf is new to the board and only 4 days into recovery. For me, her avatar and name were a non event as I didn't know what gilf means to her. Didn't create any type of disharmony for me and it never would have occurred to me to even address anything to her about it. However, we all have our own perceptions, memories, and things that trigger us, so it's been obvious with the posts today that others viewed things differently or believe Gilf stands for an acronym (just googled it) that isn't very socially acceptable. But that doesn't mean she is implying that. We don't know what it means to her. I say, let's just move on and keep focusing on the real reason we're here. Our dedication and resolve to abstain from the poison that was our choice to drink. Let's leave the poison at that!

“Hey, welcome here! If you're here for help with your alcohol addiction, that is awesome and you are nothing but welcome! I do have to say that your user name Gilf together with your avatar and your profile pic suggest something alternative to wanting help. You just might want to reconsider your intentions here if it's something other than getting and staying sober. I could be wrong on this, but I rather doubt it. Toodles.”

What can I say? I’m an idiot who made a bad choice. While drinking. While on a website dedicated to sobriety. As many of you know, I’ve done it before and came back groveling in embarrassment and shame. I’ve sent my apology for this fuck up as well. Gilf, as you know I truly am sorry, especially you being so new here and trying to start over. It was very shitty of me and I was way out of bounds. I am sorry.

Idef,it takes guts to apologize for your actions, I applaud you for that,I've done stupid stuff drunk posting also,probably not good to drink and post,also I think Cowboy is going through some stuff right now and overreacted to this whole situation, I don't think anybody is on a witch hunt after anyone.Let's all put this behind and let Gilf feel welcome here
