Yep - that is by far the more important thing. I'm so glad you came straight back.

Another quick comment ... since I finally 'really' quit, no wine, no sugar, no binge eating... really getting my emotions under control is what I am trying to say... I ended up losing almost 20 pounds? I forget exactly how much ... yes, wait it was 12- 13 kilos (so multiply by 2.2). You don't have to put on weight is my point.
I didn't diet either. I just started to eat nutritiously.
Initially I gained weight (first 4-6 weeks) and then it started to melt off.

Also, I did not hit a bottom. I think if you have not either, perhaps you want to take action before that happens.
I was painfully aware of my problem, and feeling so alone, and rather terrified of being a world away ( i had just married and moved to Europe) from my comfort zone at the bottom of a hole. I just did not want to go there.
I am kind of there now anyway and so glad I am not drinking. I cannot imagine how that would have turned out?

I have just ducked out for some sugary treats, but I will really have to watch this. During my longest stints I have substituted with sugar and put on the most astonishing amount of weight. That can't happen this time.
I'm wondering what people do about this one? There's no sense in eliminating alcohol and careening straight into heart surgery via sugar abuse?

        Hello All
I have to race off to work, but not before I thank you so much again for your help.
        I am over whelmed.
And Eloise, thank you so much for all the info, truly.
I will be back this evening to look into it properly.
        have an amazing day all

God, Eloise. I hate to even think how this will end if I can't find my way through it.
I also moved to another country at one stage and had a terribly lonely time of it for a while. Good for you making such a fundamental change when you've had so much upheaval.
I admire your weight loss too. I have a lot more than 13 kilos to go but that is an amazing effort.
I am going to sit and devise a list of things to do 'other than' tonight. I intend to cover every base.
No Sugar, I will have a good look at the site you recommended. It makes perfect sense to avoid blood sugar peaks and troughs. The sugar cravings are here with a vengeance this evening, so a plan will need to go in place. If I get any larger, I won't need to worry about alcohol consumption where I'm going!!!

Learning something new is a great way to keep your mind off your problems! Maybe that website will pique your interest and you'll be too busy learning how (and why!) a food change can improve your health to have time to think about drinking. I've found that when I'm in a "healthy mindset" in one part of my life, it tends to encompass others as well (although I must admit I held on to the drinking much longer than made any sort of sense). That website will lead you to others or feel free to ask any questions. There are a number of videos and movies that you could watch during the witching hours. I found that I was too agitated to read during that time for awhile but I could manage to watch videos or listen to podcasts. Anything besides taking that first of many glasses if wine! Take care, NS

I came across a video that might interest you: YouTube. He talks about the relation between alcohol and sugar and clearly explains why we're better off with neither. He simplifies the science and is pretty entertaining but is sometimes quite blunt and not politically correct - so there's a heads up on that. I hope you're having an easier day today. NS

So a few mild cravings today. I tend not to drink after work, or vastly reduced amounts so it's not as tempting as one of those highly dangerous 'no work tomorrow' scenarios.
Time to get out and do some reading around.

Hey- why not stock up on your favourite fruit?
They will help with the cravings along with some L Glutamine.
Maybe forget about the weight and focus on eating and no alcohol.
I was so busy in the beginning learning to be a non-drinker.
Not sure if I mentioned my favourite podcast The Bubble Hour?
Those ladies talk some serious sense! Glad to have you here, welcome aboard.

I love it, listening now while I carving a linoprint. Somehow makes one feel less alone in all this.
