    Partied Sober

Good stuff Mary.... I must say I feel pretty envious.... No parties for me at the moment :-(

I just want to be by myself......

I am all partied out after 20 years of being the drunken loud mouth at every party I have ever been to. I am so bored with myself... 35 and never partied sober... sigh....

Ice Tea you reckon..... Maybe I will give it a go next time I am brave enough to go to a party....

Everyone: Thank you so much for your praise. It means the world to me. By the way, I had a plan ahead of time, & the bottle of iced tea was pretty large. It took quite a while to drink. Good luck future partiers...if I can do it, you can do it. Mary

        Well done Mary!!!

I have not attended too many parties w/o drinking. The one that comes to mind is one that I was elbowed into attending with a bunch of quite religious folks who did not drink much at all. They had wine that day and I was so afraid i would overdo it and do something bad (curse, trip, whatever) that I had nothing. Probably a good decision.

Ghostman, I think you need to make a plan with your friend. Agree to go for just a short while and drink non A things, then maybe out for a bite? I think you will feel bad if you let yourself get caught up. Maybe if you have a plan ahead of time, like Mary???

        Good luck.

That is great you should be very very proud of yourself, I have a hen weekend coming up which I will drink at ( in moderation) but until then I have a few social events in the diary and this will help me.
          Well done!

Way to go! That's a biggie, having a PLAN AND STICKING TO IT....duh, like remembering to pack your supps/meds when you leave town....geeezzzzz....I've forgotten underwear too tho, so, what can I say! You did great, and should be soooo proud, and you didn't have to wonder what you did, said, or fell over either!.... Isn't that amazing to wake up and not have to wonder! I love that part, waking up feeling like bounding outta the sack and knowing I have nothing to wonder about, cuz I was a-ok when I hit the sack...that's huge for me anyway. You keep it up and keep posting for us!!!!

Excellent, Mary. From now on, you will find it easier and easier to enjoy parties AF. The first one is the hardest, and now you know you can do it and ENJOY! Congratulations!

                      Way to go Mary!!!!!

Hi Ghostman- Don't know, I've been away so don't know where you are in prog. If you have plan, take your supplements, extra L-glutamine, etc and keep telling yourself you are there for your friend, you might surprise yourself what you can do.

Retteacher - That is fabulous! Congratulations on a very difficult job well done!! Doesn't if feel just great to have accomplished this! You should be very proud of yourself. It will be easier the next time and then even easier the time after that. You're on your way.:yay:

Ghostman - since your friend is a recovering alkie, don't drink as a favor to her. It will be much easier for her if you don't drink and you two will be sharing something special. It could bring you two closer together ................... and then......................who knows?
Have some tonic with lime - it usually does the trick for me and no one knows you're not drinking. Good luck.
Rest in Peace, Bear. We miss you.

I'm so proud of you Ret, what a feeling that must have been at the end of the night, unbeatable (I imagine!). Were you eyeing the clock waiting until it was time to go or were you really enjoying yourself? Just asking as if I go anywhere and have chosen to drive (deliberately so I can't drink) then I clock watch all night and find everyone sooooo irritatingly stupid LOL. I am worrying just now about a forthcoming hen night and it is not until August......... these folks aren't big drinkers and last time I was out with them (they are some family who live in Aberdeen, about 110 miles from me) I was very conscious of finishing my drink way before them, sitting with an empty glass and even going and getting myself 'inbetween round' drinks - oh the shame..... Total respect to you, I am defo not going to drink a thing at this hen night (prayer) am going to sit and people watch for the night - good plan !

                            Lxx
Rather die standing, than live on my knees, begging Please..... No More.......

                              Hi
Mary, i feel so proud of you because the parties are the REAL test. I've been caught out in the past by taking a little drink which ran out in 2 minutes flat because I was so nervous...and then my resolve crumbled. Now, I'm taking more drinks and finding what i like the most instead of always just asking for coke. Sooo sweet. I find ginger beer the best and the most " grown-up".
Funnily enough I seem to have mastered getting through the stressful life situations without alcohol, it's the celebrations that I'm struggling with. Celebrating a new job just isn't the same without the bubbly!
Ghostman, you need to lay it on the line with Candice. She may well be relieved ( and impressed) that you are taking control (for both of you) and not drinking. Who knows, she may fall at your feet in drooling admiration.....!!!!

Tea: I have to admit I was more aware of the time than if I was drinking. I looked at my watch a few times. I made myself stay a reasonable amount of time (approx. 2 hrs.). If I was drinking, I would have stretched out the time in order to get in as much drinking as possible. Mary
